I have heard that the Klofies no.8 Nardus Erasmus is good so the St Johns player Devon Hensen must be quite special

Hoekom sou hulle n wedstryd teen Affies kanselleer?

@BOG: A fact Bog loosing builds character and with the winning streak of GreyBloem you lost out on building anything. As ek reg onthou so twee jaar terug is dit Grey wat onttrek het teen Affies en toe onderwyser reg is om te ref toe is die velde skielik droog genoeg. Komaan Bog jy trek ‘n prag skool se naam deur jou gat.

@rugbyfan: Bet you did not see that one coming either. Rugbyfan it is a lonesome world at the top. Everybody is gunning for you and the more you loose the more the competition believe they can beat you. With professionalism I predict a complete reshuffle of the order in School Boy Rugby. Gone are the days of top 5 being sure of the position at the top.

On Saturday, the difference were two points. All that is required now, is for a team, like Boishaai or PRG to beat Outeniqua, and in turn, for that team to be beaten by GCB and the playing field is level, yet again. Suddenly, I have this inexplicable urge to support Boishaai and PRG  @Woltrui: I am sure that a surprise is coming- a pleasant one!

Well done EG Jansen with their big win over Paul Roos and massive victory over Nico Malan. They just faded in the last part against the nr 1 school probably this year, Outeniqua. Feel sorry for Nico malan to get such a big hiding.EG jansen one of the top contenders this year. Lets hope they manage their players well for the rest of the season. Falcons team are usually loaded with EG Jansen players. All the rugby always hits them hard at the end, especially in the Beeld trophy. god luck to the rest of the season.

@GimOB: You are right but I am really , really impressed with your team . Big games are won on the break downs and Gym are clearly superior at the break downs . Bothma and Vermeulen very good . That is not going to change . Lets ignore interschools which really is a once off game but for the rest of the games I cannot see any
team coming close to beat you . Your coach
is a tactical genious so I will put money on the table that you will win against the Kwaggas and Gym is not playing Grey Bloem ( as far as I know ) so yes I rate you to be nr 1 this year . That does not say I think you will win interschools !’

What a great day of rugby at Kearsney today, perfect weather, great crowds and awesome schoolboy rugby. Well done to Kearsney for great organisation and getting the best schoolboy rugby teams in SA in one place. Greenblooded, good to meet you too, apologies it was so brief.

I’ll start with the best game of the day, Grey Bloem vs Outeniqua, wow! Those are two very impressive sides, although I though the Outeniqua front row was actually a little too big and slow around the park. The Grey front row was immense and they had great hands too. Grey started like a house on fire! Outeniqua then absorbed the pressure put on them and finally their backline’s flair came through. Flea weight flyhalf Dewald Human ran rings around Grey twice, he reminded me of Gio Aplon at his supreme best, but even better. He just glided through the Grey backs and weaved with ease. However, I feel he will be too small for senior rugby at flyhalf. Grey’s fullback EW Viljoen when at full flight was a sight to behold. He has Bok written all over him, same with Stephan Rautenbach the wing, classy! Grey’s lighter pack started to feel the heat from the Outeniqua front 8 from the 2nd half and that in the end was the difference. Outeniqua lock Zandberg and loosies Van Schalkwyk and Koen were superb. Outeniqua really did deserve the win in the end but if came from hard graft in the pack and some individual brilliance from Human. A win that Outeniqua must savour as Grey are looking ominous in the lower age groups.

Selbourne vs Paul Roos was a relatively exciting game, Paul Roos looked tired and missing key players. Selbourne did well to bounce back from the heavy loss to Glenwood. They definitely seemed the team who wanted it more and a draw was a fair reflection.

EG Jansen just outclassed poor Nico Malan.

Westville played very well and bringing on monster prop Matt Jackson at half time changed the game in their favour as up until then it was evenly matched. Jackson was the rock in which Westville built their attacks on. McHardy and Ellse stood out with some classy runs and touches. However, it seemed that Framesby gave up once they went behind and Westville smelt blood running in a few easy tries. Framesby at better than that but all credit to Westville for showing character and coming back after two heavy defeats to top opposition.

Paarl Gim vs Glenwood, a case of bigger, better and more experienced for Paarl Gim.They were just that. What a well balanced side, great lock in JD Schickerling, a powerful front row and even more powerful loose trio. The loose trio continuously made wholes in the Glenwood defence making space for their centres to create havoc. Glenwood looked to be rotating a few players and stupidly in my opinion did not start with their captain. They seemed to lack leadership in the first half. Also they seemed to lack height in the locks until Teichmann came on. Not too sure if Harmsworth played or was injured. Standout players for Glenwood were Mazibuku, he is an absolute machine. He jumps, tackles, runs like a mad man, without him the score would have been worse. He stopped many a try with bruising tackles. Joubert, Vermaak and Ncgobo played well too but were on the back foot most of the game. I was also very impressed with Jonas, he has a good future ahead of him. The young Glenwood side did not disgrace themselves against this well oiled Paarl Gim machine but will learn from this. 11 of the squad of 25 are in grade 11 so all good. Paarl Gim will be top 5 this year without a doubt, in fact I would put my money down that they could end up top. They looked to have everything. Their blonde centre was an absolute menace and usually took 3 Glenwood players to stop him. Well done Green Machine, you just met a far stronger opponent on the day. I am looking forward to the Paarl derby as this will be a cracker.

Unfortunately, I had to leave as the Kearsney game started, but heard via twitter they won comfortably. From the results Kearsney are looking the side to beat in KZN, as I said at the beginning of the season and that is without one of the Du Preez’s who was wobbling around with a strapped knee. Great festival, only thing lacking was the awesome school war cries!

@Tandem: Paarl BH. The 8 had a strong game (also an u/17 player?). Also scored a beautifull solo “power” try. The backline, whitch is very good, didn’t receive enough quality bal to make an decisive impact.

Groot draaipunt in wedstryd. Tweede helfte wurg Kloof PBH eenvoudig tot oorgawe.
Kloof spelers wat volgens my hand opsteek vir BB CW span.

    5) Grey Bloem

Takties 100%.

@Tjoppa: I beleive that with one or two exceptions, the standard of the match officials was very high. They are all SARU contenders panel appointments and are assessed by the likes of Mark Lawrence on every performance which means that they are guys on their way onto the Provincial panels. The guy who reffed the Grey / Kwaggas game today was no exception if you ask me although there are no doubt some who would like to believe otherwise.

@BOG: There is a match time clock on the scoreboard at Kearsney which is visible to everyone. It counts down from 30:00 to 0:00 for every half and which the referees use as the match running time. Trust me on this – if the match was called 5 seconds early there would have been a riot!! The match went the distance.

I think the game between Outeniqua and Grey was probably the best match I have seen so far this year.
Just a comment on some of the questions ask so far: The match was definately played for the full 60 min, although there were some injuries in the last couple of minutes from both sides. This allowed the clock to run out, as there is no injury time allowed.
I also think the refereing is of a very high standard at KERF, and this match was no different. We even had Craig Joubert handling the EG – Nico Malan game.

@Pedantic: If that is the final score, congratulations to Outeniqua. But did the whistle not blow a little early? It was 22-20 with 10 mins to go and 5 minutes later, it was full time?

Paul Roos in trouble today. Only 17 fit players and 8th man playing wing. I know the boys will dig deep today!

@tandem – HUGE matches indeed – i would put my money on Grey to beat Outeniqua……. but im sure will be a cracker….Paarl gim will surely beat Glenwood judging results but as a local i hope otherwise. Westville v Framesby – i reckon we can win this one.. but lets see,, all good :-)

Lots of great games on Monday . The
Grey Bloem vs Outeniqwa and Boishaai vs Waterkloof will be excellent to watch . Paarl Gim vs Glenwood should also be a good one. I predict Grey to win with
10 + and Gym to win with 15+. I am not sure who the favourite is for Boishaai vs Waterkloof game. My heart is obviously with Boishaai but boy it will be a hell of a game .
