Paarl Gymnasium under-16 Tournament

It is without doubt the premier under-16 rugby tournament in South Africa. 24 schools including all of the so-called “powerhouse” rugby schools are participating. Match day 1 and 2 are long days, consisting of 10½ hours of non-stop action  on the main field, but are an absolute must for die-hard school rugby fans. Apart from the big crowds expected, there are bound to be rugby scouts aplenty in attendance.

I can’t believe Selborne u16s aren’t in this tournament. They must be one of the best u16 sides in the country

@rugbyfan: Selborne u16’s will be playing in a tournament at Grey PE during the same time. Traditionally the u16 tournament formed part of the GreyPE festival. Due to many of the teams participating at the MaritzB 150 year tournament, the Grey PE festival wont take place this year, but they still continuing with a small u16 tournament. All I know is that Selborne will be playing Rondebosch and Daniel Pienaar at the tournament. I will try and get a fixture list. Maybe one of the GreyPE parents can help.

Dont think Framesby and Marlow have the best of what the EC has to offer and Under16 level.

@beet: No..Paarlbok spoke to the organizers and told them I am a real bastard and they better play Boishaai on the A-fields or their u/15 team might end up playing in Paarl Boulevard against the local prison team!…

Without a doubt the best U16 festival in the country. it is an excellent gauge of the senior prospects of an U16 group measured against the top rugby schools in the country. All this in a great setting amongst the vineyards :-D
i have good memories of Paarl Gim in 2005 and 2007. In 2005 MHS lost on the final day to Gimmies in a well contested game (their only loss) and I think that more was learnt from that defeat than from any of their victories laying some of the foundation for a succesful 1st XV two years later. The same applied to the 2007 U16’s against Grey Bloem.

@PaarlBok: Thank you – I was just about to ask whether there was a website. I hope the roads are safe – the Glenwood boys will be travelling by bus so should be full of energy for their games at Paarl Gim and Boishaai.

BoishaaiPa. As ek na julle program kyk dink ek die organiseerders(Paarl Gim) is nie baie lief vir julle nie.

What in all that is holy’s name is Brackenfell doing at this tournament? The strong Rondebosch or Bellville u/16’s would have definitely added more value.

Its a pity the Selborne u16 team wont be at the tournament. In the past 2 years they have played some of the schools that will be at the tournament. The only team they have lost to is Grey Bloem and that could of gone any way. With out a doubt, it must be the top u16 tournament in the country. Wish I could be there.
