Boishaai starts 2013 with a win

Paarl Boys High overcame a determined San Isidro from Argentina 38-20 after leading 24-6 at the break. The match played in 37 degree heat was Boishaai’s first for 2013. Judging by the result and the calibre of the opposition who’s reputation had been enhanced by good showings against Drostdy and Paul Roos, Boishaai has all rights to feels happy about this positive start to the season. Hooker Daniel du Plessis was adjudged to be man of the match by Tony Stoops and there appeared to be solid performances put in by outside centre Dewald Naude, captain at lock Burger van Niekerk as well as highly rated tighthead prop Thomas du Toit. Eighthman Bulle de Villiers is another player worth keeping an eye out for this season. You can read the full match report at Tony Stoops’ website by clicking on the icon below:

@Playa: Agreed, although that may interfere with the regular season fixtures. Maybe the question should be if it is still relevant if we take all the festivals and said regular season fixtures into account.

@Ploegskaar: My view is that maybe Cape Schools should be scheduled for after Craven Week. Maybe even for the first week of the third term. Its always better when teams are playing strength for strength.Just my 2 cents

@beet: In the WC the CW teams are mostly selected from one (non-participating) school, so to be fair on the EC schools, an u/17 compo may not be a bad idea.

@QC86: I know SB have had some big boys in the past, so should be an interesting battle with some big collisions then. No use talking to these boys though, they will keep running at those channels all day as if they are bar doors 8-O

@Ploegskaar: I wish they would make Cape Schools Week an u17 compo. The EC schools also sometimes miss key players due to CW and Academy Week

@BoishaaiPa: Going on previous years’ selections, all the participating WC schools should then be at full strength….

@QC86: Well here goes my first and last heads-up ever: If your laatie plays, tell him to avoid the 9/10 and 10/12 channels at all costs, heavy traffic coming through and the bus is always full

@Queenian: Cape Schools is only in June Holidays..still a while to go…and remember..the WC Schools dont play their CW and Academy players during that week..knowing our neighbours from Northern Paarl, they will first suss out the opposition and see how they do during the next few months to make sure they pick some nice games for themselves!

@Ploegskaar: Ye whats up with Cape Schools week not giving out a fixture list yet, i had herd that Queens were playing BL/PGym and SACS how true that is i am not sure. Surely the host school is responsible for this so Paarl Gym need to catch a wake up.

Although Queens will battle with all 3 of those schools this year i recon.

@beet: Lol, going on recent results between the 2 teams, the result has been a foregone conclusion and the margin was all that mattered anyway! The least he can do is buy me a coffee for always being so nice to BH and all the other schools, never a bad word, I say

@BoishaaiPa: Make that Bellville HS as well, as we are sponsoring that unbeaten u/16’s this year  (Ploeg likes winners!) If you can send me an e-mail address closer to the time, I will get your cell no. so that we can have that coffee on the 8th. All the best for the season.

@Queenian: They have a though season ahead and injuries and lack of depth will always play a roll with a small school like Landbou, but I think they will be competitive this year (that cagey enough?).

The other school on the jersey is Stellenberg HS, which my oldest daughter is attending (after 3 years at Girls High in Paarl, she and my middle daughter, back at Gene Louw Primary, asked to be moved back this side). Note I attended neither school, I started supporting Landbou when the girls started at Girls High and will continue to do so as I have made lots of friends there and have friends with kids there. For obvious reasons I will support Stellenberg over the coming years as well (Saturday match itinerary for the year is done, with 11 Landbou games and 5 Stellenberg games  ). For the record, I attended President HS in Vrijzee, which made JJ Serfontein look like a preppy nursery school in its hay day.

@Ploegskaar: @BoishaaiPa: The whole winner vs loser thing is outdated. It’s now all about the spread. Reach an agreement on what the margin in the game rightfully ought to be and go from there in terms of who is going to buy who what.

@Ploegskaar: Yes..it will have to be pancakes and coffee..I dont trust the boeries they make anymore..or at Girls High!…or at Stellies…apparently the supplier is a bit suspect!…

I think most old boys will swop the No 1 of 2012 ranking for an Interschools win and be ranked No 10 instead!…That loss should never have happend..still dont know how we lost that game!…in 2011 we lost by 3 points..while missing 12 point blank points in front of the poles…the same kicker slotted 11 out of 11 the previous week against SACS….These things just happen to keep us humble I suppose!…

@Queenian: None of that cock and bull here  I buy raw materials (imported and local) to process our own branded products, of which 95% is sold through our own retail outlets, and both brand and outlets carry the owner’s name, so no horseplay for me! Non-declaration of ingredients have unfortunately been rife in the industry and better awareness and regulation will only be good for both established businesses like ourselves and the consumer.

@BoishaaiPa: Agreed, rankings are of no consequence, but maybe winning the Big Paarl Derby should be the focus for this year. Are you going to buy me a pancake and a coffee at Brug on the 8th of June to ease my pain? Last time we visited Brug it was fairly close, but I can’t see BL breaking the 4 year losing streak this year, your bois (!) looked good in their first outing.

    Guys..please..focus….its BOISHAAI…not Booishaai!….Its like calling Grey ..”Gray”…There is only one “O” in Boishaai!…

Beet..the Garsies lock is struggeling to make the 1st team yes…just shows you..he was never approached or earmarked to play 1st team, he has to fight for his place like every other player.

We dont worry too much about were Boishaai ends up on the rankings..so long as the team gives a good account of themselves and makes us proud.

@rugbyfan: The Grey Bloem team that was published a few weeks back has been strengthened even further by the introduction of Julian Jordaan, who was probably injured earlier on.

Otherwise any players you are looking forward to watching this season?

According to a blogger from Drostdy, the Argentinians are first and second year universtiy students, with a friendly and positive outlook on life, a passion for the game….and very healthy appetites.
