@QC86: I am just happy we kicked the season off with a convincing win :-D

So Adam has left Selborne Primary to join his mate James at Hudson? They’ll do well with those kids. Best we eye them now to get them back home as Griffy’s successors some time in the far future

@Wyvern: It was a draw the KC v HP game when the sides were U16. Kingswood were up 17-5 with 5 mins to go and let it slip.

HP beat this Kingswood side by more than 20 points in the U15 year.

@GCollege86: Your son is a sublime rugby player. The Selborne College 1st team players must be very bruised. Those Grensies were extremely physical.

@spilly: It was a tough one. I son says its one of the hardest games he has ever played. One could see the nervousness of the youngsters but happy to see some of them stepped up to the challenge. I expect that there will be some changes to the team for the game against a very strong Framesby. Must give credit to Grens who I thought played one of their best games in years against a Selborne team. Cant wait for the derby against them on the 9th of April.

@GCollege86 A good win for Selborne with a young team, against one of the better Grens teams the last few years. This team will be even stronger when the likes of Lyons Lemmer ,Greig and Amstrong return. This will leave a very exciting and young bench for the season.Looking forward to a very good season with talented players having speed and flair.

Nice to see Grens being competitive at 1st XV level again.

It is amazing that it is 30 years since that win against a very good Queens team at the Border rugby day….

@Wyvern: The Hilton u14A boys in 2012 who were thumped were convinced that they were playing the HP u16A team. Perhaps the HP boys were not the correct age or had matured very early – either way, this advantage reduces as the kids get older. This could be another factor?

@Vleis: They beat Kingswood’s u16A team that year if i remember the result correctly. Funny thing about HP though is that their age group teams are almost always top notch but at senior level they flatten out (not too sure how mcuh of this is due to pupils leaving etc) and this has been the case for as long as i can remember. My guess is that coaching and possibly lack of facilities is the main reason, but definitely no doubt that HP has talent.

@Vleis: Last year the 1st team had an average of about 12 gr12s per game and the year before they had about 11 gr 11s (same age group). Of all the boys in the senior age group squad this year, 11 boys has played at least 2 games for the first team.

I seen QC fixture list, looks tough and hard with don’t see many breaks for the lads. QC looks to have a nice team, how is the depth?

@Playa: The current HP g12s were brilliant as u14s, as they beat KES u14A by 60 – 0 and Hilton u14A by 80 – 0. So, they certainly had potential…but I don’t know how they did post u14. Someone said that they lost some players to the more well known monastic schools.

@GCollege86: Wow, only two returning 1st team players…and both in new positions. Did the 2015 team comprise mostly matrics?

Cant wait for tomorrow. I think it will be a typical hard Selborne vs Grens game. Grens has been doing a lot of pre-season work with a few games under the belt. Selborne with a young team and a few possible starters not playing due to injuries and other sporting commitments. Next weeks team against Framesby might look different. I think they will probably use the next two games to test combinations before they go to KERF.

Team and Position they played in 2015:
    1. Msengane – no1, 2nds
    2. Bomela – no2, 2nds
    3. Moodie – no3, u16
    4. Rust – no4, u16
    5. Snelling – no5, 2nds
    6. Mladianyana – no.6 / no.2, u16
    7. Du Toit – no.5 , 2nds
    8. Mountfort – no.8, u16
    9. Bruce – no.14, 1sts
    10. George – no.10, 2nds
    11. Sili – no.11, 2nds
    12. Xamiashe – no.13 / no.14, 1sts
    13. Kuhlane – no.13, u16
    14. Norton – no.15, u16
    15, Coetzer – no.10 / no.12, u16

@Playa: Keep your head up,Griffy will work his magic.Selborne’s backline should be hot, some nice talent coming through.Team of the day should be QC,but Hudson have a new ass coach Adam R and he knows how to work with kids.

@QC86: I cannot see QC going down to Hudson. Then again I know very little about the HP side. The game and the Selborne-Grens one will be massive clashes. Both matches could go either way, but my money is on the colleges.
As for Dale…well…we’re limping along. The squad is not bad though I must say.

Let’s see QC has some top notch competition this year with an ages dive campaign….Hudson will be a handful. Interesting Ludz! Hope Dale has a respectable season.

The triplets all in the Dale match day squad, must some kind of history here, all 3 are 1st XI in cricket and now all of them will jam for the 1st XV. There should be 2 very proud parents in King Willy

@beet: I agree. This Hudson age group has never lost to Queens, so it’s going to be very interesting.

Again, QC has never lost to Hudson at 1st XV level so there’s a lot at stake here, for both teams.

Can’t wait to watch some rugga again. That QC side should be really good.Selborne got some players out due to rowing and waterpolo and the odd injury,so a young side will be taking the field against a very motivated Grens side, with a very good no8 playing for them.Dale i have not heard much about this year,Griffy just going about his business???? i think.
