Brad Macloed-Henderson has been reappointed by Hilton while Michael Schwartz has been replaced after steering Michaelhouse to their first unbeaten season in over a century.
Hilton made use of a communication regarding key sports appointments to break the news to parents that Brad Macleod-Henderson has been reappointed as head coach for 2016. BHM was in charge for 2012 and 2013 seasons. He will replacing fulltime teacher AC Blume who held the reins for two seasons following BHM depart to join the Sharks. Hilton will retain the services of Greg Miller, the Investec Rugby Academy manager who was signed as a consultant to add much needed experience to their rugby programme as a whole and has been working with players during 2015. The nett result is that Hilton will have a top notch rugby coaching structure in place. Their highest priority for 2016 surely has to be to break their four match losing streak against main rivals Michaelhouse.
This one will come as a bit of a surprise to outsiders. Teacher Michael Schwartz who just guided Michaelhouse to their first unbeaten season in over 100 years, will be replaced by fellow teacher André van Wyk as part of a carefully worked out succession plan formulated a few years ago. During his five year stint, Schwartz assisted by some coaching pedigree that House is fortunate to have at their disposal, helped the private school to claim two official KZN awards for finishing first in the province. Schwartz’s Michaelhouse – Hilton record reads played 10 win 6 lost 4 (vs Deon Scheepers – now head of Grey College: P2 W1 L1; vs Brad Macleod-Henderson: P4 W1 L3; vs AC Blume: P4 W4 L0)
Obviously Mike Vowles is a WOB too….

@Rhino_67: Kane Mavrodaris under15A coach at St David’s in JHB, doing wonders with a small group of boys. William George, Head of Rugby at Ashton College….others…

@GreenBlooded: I could have put three names forward to Westville of OB’s doing well coaching around SA…

@beet: yes Beet you are spoton …Wednesday the new coach/es will be revealed. I do have a feeling that they might also go inhouse. 8) 8)
Michaelhouse have an excellent coaching setup with guys like Ryno Combrinck, Michael Swartz and I assume Andre van Wyk. Don’t underestimate the influence that Combrinck has had over his tenure in putting the correct structures in place. I think that it is commendable that they are all teachers in this age of professional coaches at schools.
Superb appointment by Michaelhouse and I’m sure having a coach like MS will benefit the age groups and the system as a whole. Good luck to Andre.
I see Gary Teichmann was at the Glenwood SANIX/Joost Dinner on Friday night, hopefully they can sort the issues and renew Glenwood’s oldest derby game with Hilton. I also noticed two very tall Gelofte boys in attendance, I wonder if they are recruitment targets..?
@Far Meadows: Sounds superbly democratic and all of those good things, but why the change? MHS have had reasonably good sides by KZN’s standards (excl 2013) with a number of talented players each year, however in my opinion the differentiator has been their coaching. Generally the MHS sides have been very well drilled with very good skills and excellent interlinking play.
Glad to see MHS sticking to having teachers as their coaches.
So Hilton said they withdrew from the Glenwood fixture due to Glenwood being too professional, now they bring in a high profile professional coach again, seems that wasn’t really the case…..
@beet: look forward to that Beet!! They have the making for a great 2016, but we need to start the hard yards soon.
@Rhino_67: I think Westville might finalise this week.
Looks like both Hilton & Michaelhouse have stolen a march on Westville. This will give them plenty of time for boys and coach to gel. Once again, I feel Westville is missing a thing or two here – we are always under prepared at the start of every season!. Let’s hope there announcement is not too far off.
Good luck to both new coaches and there new ventures. Roll on 2016!
