@HSBR (Comment #111)
Tjaart might not be the most gregarious person out there, but as a coach he is brilliant with a long track record of success. If the school let him go because of parents complaining they absolutely deserve the slippery slope they are on. And I am sure Jannie is a nice guy, but I am not sure about his coaching credentials.
@Wonder (Comment #117)
@Loubser (Comment #116)
… trek ‘n truitjie aan!
@Wonder (Comment #117)
@Garsieoldboy (Comment #109)
MENLO RUGBY
@Grizzly (Comment #114)
@AbsolutMenlo (Comment #110)
Sal vorentoe weer speel, dis verseker.
@AbsolutMenlo (Comment #110)
@AbsolutMenlo (Comment #110)

@Rainier (Comment #108)
Agreed. I think Monnas will do anything to have back the type of teams they had in the 2000s, some of those teams were scary. I also do think a lot of the times schools would maybe have one good season or get hyped a lot which spills over to the kids and then you see things happen like with Tjaart
@Garsieoldboy (Comment #109)
Relax …
@AbsolutMenlo (Comment #98)
tweedes was beroof? Verduidelik asb. So hoe bedoel jy beroof?
@HSBR (Comment #90)
And this, in a nutshell, is why the Monnas glory years are gone.
@Rod (Comment #103)
“To a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail.” While I’m not a fan of schools recruiting players (see my various skirmishes on this platform over the years), I really get the sense from the PBHS bloggers on here that every single thing that ostensibly goes wrong in SBR is as a result of recruitment practices, even when there is no obvious link. I have not seen the incident you referred to in the HJS-PRG game (I was at the field, so I haven’t seen the TV footage in full), but it is worth remembering that these guys are also 16 to 18 years’ old. When I was grade 8, I was a touch judge for a 5th team game between PRG and one of the Southern Suburb schools and one of the other team’s players did not agree with a call I made (in his opinion, the PRG kicker had kicked a penalty dead), so he shouted at me and squared up to me (all 152cm of me at that stage). Was this also as a result of “outsized egos, fuelled by inappropriate recruitment practices”, or is this just testosterone-filled boys doing stupid things? I agree with you that core values should not be compromised, but I think it’s wrong to see recruitment practices as the root of all evil when there are a multitude of possible causes.
Geluk HJS!
Goeie wen vir my Wes-Kaap span, Oakdale
More! @Rugbyman (Comment #104)
@AbsolutMenlo (Comment #98)
Goeie more! Well done.
Sies! Dit hoort nie by Menlo of enige ander skole veld nie!
@Kaya 85 (Comment #94)
Time to take a step back, I’m my opinion. This is not a specific reference to the SJC – SB game, but the type of behaviour which resulted in the match being called off happens in many matches every weekend, even if it’s isolated in most cases. Outsized egos, fuelled by inappropriate recruitment practices, is what drives these antics. These boys are de facto professionals, and they simply mimic what they see on TV. There should be no place for this on a schoolboy rugby field (cricket hasn’t been spared either). I watched the great game between HJS and PRG – necessarily as a neutral – but an incident involving a high profile acquisition (and an unacceptable one in my opinion unless his family relocated halfway through his high school career) pushing a ball boy out of his way was an unnecessary blemish. Whilst I fully appreciate that times change and things unavoidably move on, core values and appropriate behaviour should not be compromised in the process.

I see the Potch title goes to Potch Gim, 3rd year in a row. Heard it was a good game…wasn’t Potch Volkies the favourite to take it this year!! Saw on youtube, alot of people came out!
@Kaya 85 (Comment #94)
Eish, I hope this is not another one of your predictions
@Kaya 85 (Comment #94)

@Wonder (Comment #95)
Geluk Gars lekker rugby by Menlo.
For the record Menlo ook ‘n paar beserings, maar ons praat nie daaroor.
Jammer vir Menlo tweedes … hulle was beroof.
Puik wen vir Menlo 0/16 … baie geluk!!
@Snelvuur (Comment #96)
@Wonder (Comment #95)
@Snelvuur (Comment #93)
St Benedicts’ game v St John’s ended in a confused melee about 10 mins into 2nd half. Game had many 1st half niggles, ref spoke and spoke and warned over and again. In the 2nd half a few late tackles…more talking and warning…after St Johns last try a uniformed learner ran on to the field (possibly with either the tee or water) got pushed/bumped over. The SJC coach – a former St B teacher/ coach – was standing directly under the poles with 2 assistant coaches, so when the try was scored, the scorer who had crossed the line near the right then ran closer to the poles, big tackle attempt but defender shouldered, the try scorer was then basically by his coach as he dived to score…then pushing and shoving after the whistle…apparently the coach received a push…he was in with the melee..apparently he slapped a player ( I did not see that, heard after). Then the ref spoke sternly and another round of final final warnings ..from the kickoff a tackle against a player in the air, so the ref blew final whistle, game over. Very disappointed spectators as you can imagine. Players too…I think we would have preferred he dished out some yellow cards earlier instead of endless verbal warnings. But there u go, heard some fans muttering about those entitled spoiled private school boys…
…don’t know which they were referring to.
@Wonder (Comment #89)
@HSBR (Comment #90)
Thing is today’s kids are a bunch of primadonnas for the most part,they are soft and dont take well to discipline….then they run to mommy and daddy and they run to the headmaster.
I do think that is why traditional boys schools tend to be better,especially if they have large hostels,discipline are still being maintained there on a higher level than co ed and day schools
@Smallies (Comment #88)
Tjaart had too many complaints against him from the parents. He is a difficult guy to get along with, not really what you’d call a “people person”, but I agree. Tjaart has an impressive resume and has proved many times he can bring a school glory
Beserings raak nou belaglik.
@HSBR (Comment #86)
I think they made a massive mistake getting rid of Tjaart
GREY -QUEENS
Grey forwards very good dominating again as every match.
Grey backine looks like it getting coached by the head of the music centre poor forward same old same old every week.
@Smallies (Comment #50)
Saw on the day Noordheuwel also won the majority of the games. Monnas 0/16 group, which is suppose to be the group of the school, lost all three of their matches
@Coolguy (Comment #84)
Ncutu Kepe! Still only in grade 10. That kid hits hard!
Well done Queens College. banger game, that opening tackle was mental!
It’s so funny Saffas are dronk before it’s even sunset here. Sun went down at 9pm our time 10pm SA time, Okes in bed already 🤪😂
4 standouts for me is Queens, Westville, Menlo and Oakdale
@Grasshopper (Comment #79)
Any game back in the 80’s or 90’s vs an Afrikaans School was a grudge match. You knew you were going to bleed
@Grasshopper (Comment #79)
What about Brettonwood that was another classic Bluff school
@Bush (Comment #78)
The Dirkie Uys vs Grosvenor Boys game we the Bluff Boer war….
@Kaya 85 (Comment #77)
Bennie Bezuidenhout 1989 or 1990 and Willie James Ward 1991
@Bush (Comment #74)
Who were they?
@beet (Comment #75)
Not bad when written off! Class won in the end. Proud of the Green Machine on OBs day back against the wall. Hard to compete with Northwood’s coaches & feeder area…
Glenwood gave Northwood a good run for their money today. 16-18 towards the end with Glenwood having some ball to attack with. Northwood closed it out with two tries at the death
@Grasshopper (Comment #73)
Dirkie Uys produced two Natal Schools players in 90 and 91
Fake Bluff = Wentworth, where I lived opposite Dirkie Uys Skool (now Bluff Christian Academy) on the corner of Tara and Hollesley Rd, yes. Where Vleis Visagie lived when he played for Harlequins on the Bluff & walked to practice. The school used to host elections & had full on Dutchman on horses with NP flags etc, that Bluff…
@Smallies (Comment #71)
Whahahaja just rolled my Jeep. Lekker Hopper
@Bush (Comment #69)
That would give the term Mercury poisoning a whole new meaning….
@Smallies (Comment #67)
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@Smallies (Comment #66)
They didn’t have that luxury on Bluff during Hoppers time. He used newspaper, that’s why he’s so clever
@Smallies (Comment #65)
Yes and a Mr Dave Anderson who a legend of a person.
@Bush (Comment #64)
Or English made biltong
@Bush (Comment #64)
Nah he’s from fake bluff it would proparbly be roll of kack paper
@Bush (Comment #63)
Was that when Skonk coached?
@Smallies (Comment #61)
I’m not going to say anything about GW as Hopper with hit me with his tea pot 😬
@Smallies (Comment #61)
Lekker Smallies, everybody wants to play Grey and if don’t have a great year. It’s not worth the effort. College back in the 80-90’s produced an unbeaten side in KZN almost every year. Then it was worth them to test their mettle against the Powerhouse of Rugby GCB.
@Boereworsgordyn (Comment #57)
I think all teams outside the top 8 would lose to PRG by 25 points or more. DHS played Oakdale last season and won.
@Bush (Comment #59)
Grey used to have Interschools games against both Maritzparra and Glenwood until 2017 Maritzparra and 2018 Glenwood…
@Kaya 85 (Comment #55)
Great result after a really tough game against College.
@Boereworsgordyn (Comment #57)
Thanks, yes they should. The only time this could happen is during festivals. I was just discussing this the other day, KZN Top school for example with play 3-5 games involving Top 10 schools. The Cape almost every game is against the top 10 schools. Stressful job being a 1st XV coach😬😬
@Kaya 85 (Comment #54)
Sorry picking up stompies😬
@Bush (Comment #53)
DHS lost by 27pts to Paarl Gym, and none of the 2 schools have played against the likes of Paarl Boys, Paul Roos, Affies, Grey, Oakdale etc. KZN teams should get an opportunity to play against the top dogs, otherwise they cannot be recognised as T10 imo.
Port Rex 17-20 Kingswood
@Bush (Comment #53)
Real score
Westville 33 – 28 DHS
@Bush (Comment #53)
Lol…
No just a prediction
About 8% chance of accuracy
@Kaya 85 (Comment #45)
What a result between DHS and WBHS. So they both remain unbeaten?
@kantako (Comment #51)
O suspect this is the end of Doc Jannie’s coaching career also…
@Smallies (Comment #50)
The rise and fall.
Have we just witnessed a passing of the torch moment in Krugersdorp ?
@Kaya 85 (Comment #48)
Few big calls here, Kaya! Stellenberg beatingOakdale would be a massive upset and would probably make this Stellenberg’s best ever season. I reckon Drostdy would be relatively happy with that score against Gim – I fear that game could get very ugly very quickly. I think PV will beat Tygerberg and establish themselves as a contender in that league. The HJS, PRG prediction is probably fair enough – time will tell.
Future Stormers Predictions
Rondebosch 28 – 30 Boland Landbou (Bosch fluff it)
Stellenberg 30 – 28 Oakdale (Pratt out surfing)
Wynberg 39 – 9 Bishops (Stiff winds)
Paarl HJS 24 – 20 Paul Roos Gim (comfortable in a tight game)
Paarl Gim 45 – 3 Drostdy (3rd gear)
Tygerberg 30 – 28 Parel Valley
Menlyn Maine Derby
Menlopark 15 – 40 Garsie Bere (Bere cannons fire)
E Cape
Queens 25 – 20 Grey (Queens Quam Lite Greys)
St Andrews 24 – 14 Selborne (too fast in the backs)
Kingswood 42 – 12 Port Rex (Kingswood in a mood)
Hudson 18 – 38 Graeme (fluid handling the secret)
KZN
Glenwood 19 – 35 Northwood (close until the last 10 mins)
Westville 40 – 40 DHS (honours even till they meet again)
Predictions Noordvaal
Affies 52 – 22 KES (te veel skietgoed virrie spiertiere)
Noordheuwel 25 – 29 Monnas (another year slips by for Nories)
Jansen 18 – 35 Helpies (Dry East Rand air, dusty field, Helpies crush it)
Wesvalia 30 – 40 Oos-Moot (Moot ploeg voort)
Marais Viljoen 35 – 22 Ligbron (Viva Alberton)
Potch Gim 28 – 26 Potch Volkies (lekker derby day innie Weste)
Merensky 15 – 16 Dinamika (long long trek, close close game)
Jeugland 19 – 21 Randburg (Jeugies come close)
Predictions North Vaal
St Stithians 27 – 25 Northcliff (home advantage clinches Randburg derby)
Parktown 30 – 22 St Davids (Solid and serious)
St Albans 16 – 40 Pretoria Boys High (Boys High find their mojo)
St Benedicts 18 – 44 St Johns (SJ click into gear)
@Snelvuur (Comment #41)
🤣🤣🤣
@Smallies (Comment #40)
@Snelvuur (Comment #39)
@Trots HJS (Tandem) (Comment #38)
@JongMatie (Comment #32)
@JongMatie (Comment #32)
@Kaya 85 (Comment #35)
Ok, sagies en teer, met baie liefde.
@Wonder (Comment #34)
@JongMatie (Comment #32)
Aaag kak man….
@OUD ANKER (Comment #30)
Ergste ergste ergste is in Bloem.
@OUD ANKER (Comment #30)
@JongMatie (Comment #17)
Die refs kroek PR in Riversdale, in Bloem, in die Paarl, trust my in Pretoria kroek hulle PR nog erger, so die arme PR word orals deur die refs bedonner en dan te same met al PR se beserings en die feit dat PR ‘n baie gemiddelde span die jaar het stem ek saam jou, PR gaan met so 40 + verloor….
@Maroon machine supporter (Comment #28)
Ek sal beserings update gee so teen Donderdag.
@OomPB (Comment #23)
Stem. Ek is uiters bekommerd oor Saterdag.
@Bungee (Comment #20)
Ek wonder of JongMatie hom dalk oupa noem?
@TWE (Comment #9)
I don’t agree with you. All our junior teams have enormous talent and with our new Director of Coaching ( Neil de Bruin’s ) influence these teams are doing well. I am really excited about the pipeline for the future.
@OomPB (Comment #23)
Nog nooit so ‘n klagte gehoor nie.
@Bungee (Comment #20)
Sal n groot upset wees as PRG naby bly.
@Bungee (Comment #20)
JM die verskoningkoning slaan weer toe
@JongMatie (Comment #17)
Is daar enige refs waarmee jy okay is?
Port Rex vs Kingswood is being played in East London, not at Kingswood
@JongMatie (Comment #17)
Ai man.
@OUD ANKER (Comment #5)
@TWE (Comment #9)
No, I don’t agree with that. HJS’s u14 side hasn’t really caught fire yet, but their 15s and 16s are really good sides. It’s not even impossible that HJS wins all of the A-team games coming Saturday. They have quality sides through all the age groups.
@Smallies (Comment #10)
I feel like the senior DoR / top school management bit off more than they can chew…those lads having to play such an impossible fixture list…I mean why?
and last year they literally had committed to 2 First team matches on 1 blerry day. C’mon leadership…pride comes before a fall.
@OUD ANKER (Comment #5)
Details matter. Astute observation. Well said.
KES - AFFIES
Anyone have any updates – was really surprised (and pleased) to see the Reds pipping Nories – didn’t expect that. Well done!

If PBS don’t win this Saturday, it is going to be a long time before they win again given the strength in the junior teams and the money of Paul Roos. Long back to the days when Paul Roos were the weakest of the 4.

Uitgebrand …

Ek stem saam. Beide skole is ewe goed.

@Snelvuur (Comment #3)
Dit is vir my asof Noordheuwel ‘n ander span is.
DHS/Westville
Wynberg/Bishops
Boishaai/PRG
Menlo/GF
Potch Gim/Volkies
Maar in Krugersdorp is die grote. NH se beste kans ooit?
