Rest in peace Tristan

TristanStewartTragically Tristan Stewart, the Glenwood 2nd XV hooker was killed in a motoring accident this morning. He will be sorely missed by all who’s lives he touched.

From Glenwood:

“The Headmaster, staff and boys of Glenwood High School would like to thank all those that contribute to your blog for the kind wishes and condolences posted after the tragic death of Tristan Stewart. This has certainly been a trying time for the everyone at Glenwood as Tristan was a pillar of our community. We will continue to support the family through this time and we ask that they be upmost in the prayers of everyone.”

I had the pleasure of briefly talking to Tristan last year and found him to be humble and pleasant young man. What stood out most for was Tristan’s attitude on the rugby field. He always looked like he was thoroughly enjoying himself out there.

I must say – these stories are really heart warming. I agree with GB – Cyndi – your photos were great to see,

It is emotional to see and read about Tristan – as like many contributors hear – I too have young sons. It sparked a very deep conversation back from Hilton on Saturday with my son on mortality, health and the opportunities we have.

Once again I love this game of rugby – in that no matter who the player is – the entire community is affected – irrespective of team, provincial affiliation, nationality, creed, culture etc.

A similar outpouring has happened in the light of the Jerry Collins death too. So sad that 2 great players were lost so similarly 1/2 a world apart.

May this game continue to be one where “you have at least 15 friends in every place in the world”

@GreenBlooded: The emotion was very high the entire day. Most of the boys and many of the spectators wore black arm bands. Many of the boys had written dedications to Tristan on their “Hopper” warm up shirts too. For me a special moment was when a close friend of Tristan’s shouted “For Tristan” as he scored a try. Vicki and Frans and other family members were at the game.

Some really moving photos up on Cyndi’s site of the balloon ceremony before the 2nds team ran on. Wasn’t there but the emotion of the occasion can be clearly felt via these images.

The funeral has been scheduled for 12:00 on Tuesday 9 June 2015 at the Doxe Deo/City Hill church in Marianhill road, Pinetown. Spoke to Vicky and Frans last night and although they are not on the blog I showed it to them and they are overwelmed by all the messages. They said it is great to have such a huge rugby family…..

I am privileged to have so many rugby sons both at Glenwood and in club rugby. Tristan was a very unique boy who always stood out – he managed to make his mark with his confidence and ability to chirp. He never seemed to be afraid and lived his life to the fullest. While he enjoy his social life, he also took his responsibilities very seriously. He wanted to study law but was considering going to the USA to play rugby for a year or two first. He would have made an excellent lawyer.

Tristan is now with his Dad at last. I will miss you Tristan.

I’m sure they will do a lot more than that on Saturday. Cindy and others have posted pics of him in his final game from Saturday. Chilling. Hard to believe a youngster can just be taken like that. :( :(

Feels like yesterday watching a young spirited lad mixing it up on the mini rugby field as an Under 7. A gregarious youngster with an everlasting smile.

We will look up at a million lights in the sky tonight and let the memories flood back. RIP Trist, a tragic loss to our community.
