Just spoke to Morgan at Selborne. His coming back next week.
Aaag take it easy gentlemen!!! So tired to drive today but hey I’m off to Selborne|Stirling now. Those snoozles broke the leg of our scrumhalf last weekend and were fortunate to beat us. I hope all their teams get a proper hiding today!!!
@beet: would be nice but the Troll knows fuck all about rugby, then uses this blog as a soapbox to insult Selborne.He must not think we going to take his crap any longer
@beet: So, how about that Hangklip jersey….
I think Playa is right here. Lets keep it in the boardroom.
The discussion should rather focus on rugby related matters.
@Dale College Per Ardua Ad Astra: you a troll, add something to the blog, name a team for CW, rate a player but don’t just bash Selborne, sit under your little bridge…
Eysh things were getting a bit heated here. Not going to get involved but in my humble personal opinion Morgan should start. He is a SUBLIME rugby player!!!!!
@Dale College Per Ardua Ad Astra:I see you the self appointed
spokes person for the rest of Border,flip and you call us arrogant.you should stick your head out of the andrews center more often then you won’t be so clueless
@Playa:
Thank you, sir. Yes, I’ll take the Hangklip jersey. If I look at the number of ex Hangklip pupils in the first team of Queen’s, Marlow and Grens, we must be doing somethings right, although keeping talent is not one of them….
@Andre: Alright.All the best to your sons for the game.
Beet must give you a Hangklip jersey
My sons are in Hangklip, we play Volkskool tomorrow.
Other than that I’ll shout for Queen’s.
@Andre: Who do you support?
Anyway, we’re off to go play Graaff Reinet. Have a good week-end….
You must be so proud Neville,and so brave too,you are my dream man
@QC86: Sorry us “garden boys” from king williams town just dont know how to spell
@GCollege86: again…….lets agree to disagree about steyn……… in terms of my issues with selborne, playa is correct, this isnt the right place to discuss them, as this is a rugby blog. I shouldnt have brought up personal views on a rugby blog. But im sure if you read earlier comments made on this thread, a little bit of light would have been shed on the matter.
Im glad you know who I am, just to clarify, my name is Neville McLean, class of 2002. i dont need to hide behind a pseudonym. Talking about psychological help, i believe you probably know where my office is, come around for a free session to help you with those anger issues……
Haha. Put away the handbags, guys.
@GCollege86: What 50 points?
@Dale College Per Ardua Ad Astra: Slow down boet. You going to need psychological help if you don’t calm down or even worse.
@Dale College Per Ardua Ad Astra: @QC86: Ok…let’s keep it in the boardroom guys.
@Dale College Per Ardua Ad Astra: So what is actually your “big problem” with Selborne. I know who you are and understand where you coming from. This has nothing to do with rugby. The final team has not even been announced and you already pointing fingers and playing the blame game. Morgan had 10 min at Kearsney and in that 10 min he was unbelievable. Yes he is coming back from an injury and will start playing next weekend. Give him the benefit of the doubt. He might be ready for CW or he might not. I am not sure who the coaches are, but I am sure they won’t take him to CW if they not sure that he will be an asset to the team. And by the way, Morgan at 80% is still better than any other flyhalf in the border. A few teams in Border have taken 50 points this season or can’t you remember. No shame in that. I am going to lunch now at Bucs and you welcome to join me if you want to discuss your issues with Selborne. Beet has my details and I don’t mind him forwarding it to you.
@Dale College Per Ardua Ad Astra: Rudi
@QC86: point proven I guess rudy! (mind boggled)
@Dale College Per Ardua Ad Astra: If the shoe fits.
@QC86: well done on your u14’s and u16’s, were both very good wins….. how did your guys open teams do out of interest? sincere question
You right, only the Dalians were to blame for the niggle and off the ball stuff……… i have no doubt that the selborne lads walked around hugging everyone and blowing kisses to our dalians !!
Plus i would take “drunk parents” any day over SOME of the HUGELY unashamedly racist and BIGOTED, arrogant and self entitled selborne parents who think the sun shines out of their arses and who call us dalians “garden boys” (and yes that happened)
in terms of the injured border player, guess we have to agree to disagree, i think the principal is wrong. But luckily im not a selector i guess.
@Playa: played 10 min at KERF and set up 2 tries,then re tore his quad.My point is that he is worth keeping in the loop until the day before CW,even tho he is from Selborne.
@QC86: LOL! You got me…I was being diplomatic
Considering that Grobler is that good, I can’t see how Am can be pipped by Selem on the bench. But let’s see how it goes, maybe the selectors have seen something I haven’t.
@Playa: Selem to short for 7 or 8 and to slow for 6, not sure where he will fit in.
@QC86: We’re probably the only school who Grey cancelled a derby against because they received a beating from them…26-7 at the Graveyard in ’93 …OUCH!
@vlei: He hasn’t played since March. It would not be natural to have him as a starting player at this stage. If he comes back next weekend as has been speculated, he’ll have 4/5 games to show his form. Then he might end up starting.
@Playa: Selem to short for 7 or 8 and to slow for 6, not sure where he will fit in.@Dale College Per Ardua Ad Astra: Our u14’s and u16’s won,u15’s was a close hard game which we lost,so in fact there is no chance of me hiding,very proud.
@QC86: Redhead was a certain and though I haven’t seen Sirgel, I have heard only great things about him.It’s Grobler’s place that I thought he would have (I have never seen him play), or at least bench for Selem.So Grobler must be bladdy quality to pip Am. I’m impressed.
I haven’t been following the Eastern Cape season, why would Morgan Steyn not start? He has a chance for SA schools?
@Dale College Per Ardua Ad Astra: I will take 50 from Grey Bloem every weekend and still say thank you,was amazing to see those okes play,their knowledge of the rules,the intensity at which they play made us look like amateurs.The sportsmanship shown by their players made for a lekka day,hard games but no off the ball stuff,
No drunk parents,no parents pushing our players behind the dead ball line,no players staring the linesmen down when a foot was in touch.PS at least we still play Grey.
I am very happy to have him in the squad,if he had one foot i would play him, pure class,has a track record of 10 years of first class rugby,if it was Winnaar i would pick him to under the same conditions,reason the same as above,pure class.CW almost 2 months away,Morgan is almost ready to start his comeback so give the oke the benefit of the doubt,has given Border good service and we not really overflowing with good flyhalves.
@GCollege86: I do have big issues with Selborne, and so do the rest of the border…….but this matter has to do with a taking a kid along who hasnt played rugby for 4 months!!! no matter what school he is from, the message that sends to the kids is not a good one…….you telling me you are happy with him being selected in the squad without picking up a rugby ball?
@QC86: haha, i have been in hiding, we got a proper klap………im surprised you are back on here after getting 50 points against arguably the worst grey bloem side in 20 years last weekend!!!!!
@QC86: You right. He played CW last year and is still u18. He played against Framesby two weeks ago so dont have an injury. Dont know where he is.
@beet: Best no 9 on the Border is from Grens,not sure what his issue is
@Playa: Am is up against some big names in his position.Grobler was GK captain and played last year,Selborne redhead is unbeatable this year and that Grens 8 i spoke about yesterday is really good,so he might get on the bench.
I’m surprised not to see Siyanda Am there
Lets see who they pick for the final team.
@QC86: Ok, things are a bit clearer now. I don’t get a monthly newsletter from Border Rugby, so I was not clear on how this process has been implemented. I have just been picking up stompies from here and there. In my view, there is no better way of selecting a side than based on regular play rather than just a few rounds of trial games.Great that Border Schools Rugby Day was a yardstick and selectors have been attending games (I had very little faith in Border’s ability to do such to be honest).Just need to be careful not to select players based on their reputation.
@beet: Dont think he will mind.
@beet: Booysen at 13 and Tian at 11 is what I would like to see, but did not have the balls to say so
@QC86: A place on the wing for Siyamthanda Mgubo perhaps, although I’m not sure about how he will cope there. Also Mihlali Peter might be a consideration. Or something I know one blogger will definitely NOT want to hear – Tristan Coetzer on the wing???
Du Randt is u19
@DC ARMY: I was going to ask the same thing.Admittedly I have only watched him once but I was most impressed.
@beet: Looks pretty close,don’t like the 11,no 8 is from Grens,only grade 11,not sure about his age, but he can really play.
Ladies please, i am sure all of you are more mature than this, cant we all just get along, like really now.

@QC86: Border schools was the first trials. I have also been informed that where possible at least 2 selectors were at the school games at a time.
@Dale College Per Ardua Ad Astra: I was unaware that the Selborne coach is also going to be the Border coach but, what has that to do with anything? This is a group of 31 and not close to the final team. Looks like a Dale Selborne issue you have and not a Border issue. Get a life man or you will be getting more hidings in the near future.
@Dale College Per Ardua Ad Astra: Get over yourself bud,or is that hiding bringing out the best in you. @Playa: are we all forgetting about Border schools day ?? and yes there have been selectors at all Selborne’s games,far better and alot cheaper having selectors drive to games ,than having 60 boys drive around.We have watched most of these kids play against each other from u9’s, so most knowledgeable rugby folks know who should be in that side by grade 12.
well what do you expect when border head coach is also coach of the selborne team…..
@Dale College Per Ardua Ad Astra: Hahaha! Easy tiger
@beet: “independent selectors dedicated to watching all the contenders for a sufficient amount of time throughout the season or over an even longer period of time”
That right there is key!!!
It is a unique process – picking players without holding trials is valid if there are independent selectors dedicated to watching all the contenders for a sufficient amount of time throughout the season or over an even longer period of time. A fair process that seeks to reward the best players should always work.
Dont be silly, Selbornians don’t need to play rugby for 4 months to make the team….
@DC ARMY: No particular issue with players being picked without trials, as long as they are picked based on their performance during the current season. This of course would mean the selectors would have regularly seen them play. If that is the selection process, then so be it, and don’t run ‘trials’ for the fringe players if the team has already been picked, I’m sure the boys have girlfriends they’d rather be seeing during that time
Issue I do have, however, is picking guys based on their 2014 reputation. In the asset management business we always say “Past performance is not necessarily an indication of future performance”.Two brilliant flyhalves have been picked for example…one has barely touched a rugby ball this year, and the other has had some concerning shortfalls this year.My heart says they’ll do well at CW despite these circumstances – they are great boys with great talent, and no one can doubt they are two best 10s in the Border region – but one hopes their egos won’t get in the way. That’s the risk you take.
@Playa: Good one
Still don’t understand the issue about certain players being automatically picked without playing trials.
One curious absence for me though the Queens centre Du Randt
@CHS08: Dont know when Morgen will be back. I hear he might be back against Cambridge or Port Rex.
@CHS08: Only Godknows (Mavara)
What on earth is Border up to now?
Is this the official squad or just the guys who made it on ‘past’ performance?
Mr Venter and Mr Coerzee. When is Morgan Steyn coming back? No offence to Andile, he is an ok flyhalf but he is not a Morgan.
