    The discussion should rather focus on rugby related matters.

    @Playa:

    Thank you, sir. Yes, I’ll take the Hangklip jersey. If I look at the number of ex Hangklip pupils in the first team of Queen’s, Marlow and Grens, we must be doing somethings right, although keeping talent is not one of them…. :mrgreen:

    @GCollege86: again…….lets agree to disagree about steyn……… in terms of my issues with selborne, playa is correct, this isnt the right place to discuss them, as this is a rugby blog. I shouldnt have brought up personal views on a rugby blog. But im sure if you read earlier comments made on this thread, a little bit of light would have been shed on the matter.

    Im glad you know who I am, just to clarify, my name is Neville McLean, class of 2002. i dont need to hide behind a pseudonym. Talking about psychological help, i believe you probably know where my office is, come around for a free session to help you with those anger issues……

    @Dale College Per Ardua Ad Astra: So what is actually your “big problem” with Selborne. I know who you are and understand where you coming from. This has nothing to do with rugby. The final team has not even been announced and you already pointing fingers and playing the blame game. Morgan had 10 min at Kearsney and in that 10 min he was unbelievable. Yes he is coming back from an injury and will start playing next weekend. Give him the benefit of the doubt. He might be ready for CW or he might not. I am not sure who the coaches are, but I am sure they won’t take him to CW if they not sure that he will be an asset to the team. And by the way, Morgan at 80% is still better than any other flyhalf in the border. A few teams in Border have taken 50 points this season or can’t you remember. No shame in that. I am going to lunch now at Bucs and you welcome to join me if you want to discuss your issues with Selborne. Beet has my details and I don’t mind him forwarding it to you.

    @QC86: well done on your u14’s and u16’s, were both very good wins….. how did your guys open teams do out of interest? sincere question

    You right, only the Dalians were to blame for the niggle and off the ball stuff……… i have no doubt that the selborne lads walked around hugging everyone and blowing kisses to our dalians !!

    Plus i would take “drunk parents” any day over SOME of the HUGELY unashamedly racist and BIGOTED, arrogant and self entitled selborne parents who think the sun shines out of their arses and who call us dalians “garden boys” (and yes that happened)

    in terms of the injured border player, guess we have to agree to disagree, i think the principal is wrong. But luckily im not a selector i guess.

    @Dale College Per Ardua Ad Astra: I will take 50 from Grey Bloem every weekend and still say thank you,was amazing to see those okes play,their knowledge of the rules,the intensity at which they play made us look like amateurs.The sportsmanship shown by their players made for a lekka day,hard games but no off the ball stuff,

    No drunk parents,no parents pushing our players behind the dead ball line,no players staring the linesmen down when a foot was in touch.PS at least we still play Grey. :oops:

    I am very happy to have him in the squad,if he had one foot i would play him, pure class,has a track record of 10 years of first class rugby,if it was Winnaar i would pick him to under the same conditions,reason the same as above,pure class.CW almost 2 months away,Morgan is almost ready to start his comeback so give the oke the benefit of the doubt,has given Border good service and we not really overflowing with good flyhalves.

    @QC86: Ok, things are a bit clearer now. I don’t get a monthly newsletter from Border Rugby, so I was not clear on how this process has been implemented. I have just been picking up stompies from here and there. In my view, there is no better way of selecting a side than based on regular play rather than just a few rounds of trial games.Great that Border Schools Rugby Day was a yardstick and selectors have been attending games (I had very little faith in Border’s ability to do such to be honest).Just need to be careful not to select players based on their reputation.

    @Dale College Per Ardua Ad Astra: I was unaware that the Selborne coach is also going to be the Border coach but, what has that to do with anything? This is a group of 31 and not close to the final team. Looks like a Dale Selborne issue you have and not a Border issue. Get a life man or you will be getting more hidings in the near future.

    It is a unique process – picking players without holding trials is valid if there are independent selectors dedicated to watching all the contenders for a sufficient amount of time throughout the season or over an even longer period of time. A fair process that seeks to reward the best players should always work.

    @DC ARMY: No particular issue with players being picked without trials, as long as they are picked based on their performance during the current season. This of course would mean the selectors would have regularly seen them play. If that is the selection process, then so be it, and don’t run ‘trials’ for the fringe players if the team has already been picked, I’m sure the boys have girlfriends they’d rather be seeing during that time :mrgreen:

    Issue I do have, however, is picking guys based on their 2014 reputation. In the asset management business we always say “Past performance is not necessarily an indication of future performance”.Two brilliant flyhalves have been picked for example…one has barely touched a rugby ball this year, and the other has had some concerning shortfalls this year.My heart says they’ll do well at CW despite these circumstances – they are great boys with great talent, and no one can doubt they are two best 10s in the Border region – but one hopes their egos won’t get in the way. That’s the risk you take.
