Updated. The International Rugby Board named Sam Davies of Wales from their shortlist of three nominees as the IRB Junior Player of the Year 2013. This announcement was made following the final at the Stade de la Rabine in Vannes on Sunday which England won 23-15 against Wales.
The nominees were:
Sam Davies (Wales)
The cool, calm and collected 19-year-old Ospreys flyhalf with an educated boot is playing in his second Junior World Championships
Jack Clifford (England)
The big and powerful 20-year old No.8 from the Harlequins is very impressive with ball in hand.
Ardie Savea (New Zealand)
This flank from the Hurricanes is the 19-year-old younger brother of former winner JWC award winner and current All Black wing Julian Savea. Ardie has an unsatisfiable appetite for getting hands the ball and making the opportunity count when he has it.
The Walsh flyhalf Sam Davies, the son of former international centre Nigel Davies, saw off the challenges to be named IRB Junior Player of the year. He is the first Welshman since Gavin Henson in 2001, to win an IRB Junior Player award.

@Grasshopper: Ek moet saamstem.
@beet: From the entire list – not many household names in international rugby there.
And age should not be too much of an issue – as the good guys should be getting to international team level pretty smartly. Hope some of these guys will still come through.
@Grasshopper: @Koos Roos: His name is Luke Cowan-Dickie. Agreed he had a very good match against SA.
@Koos Roos: yes, but he needs a hare sny! What is it with all these moffie tails and mullets….
@TheGoose: @pongola: Ja that’s the one thing that I remember about Pat Barnard – not a good scrummer. He had a British passport so went to try his luck over in England. Think he made England B once.
Sal die toekening aan die Kaptein van die rooinekke gee. Baie goeie toernooi. Spesiale vermelding aan Sevea. Hard probeer.
played stormers then went overseas think he got injured though. was mobile but not very good scrummager.
Anyone know what Pat Barnard (2002) went on to do in senior rugby?
Interesting that of the previous award winners, Jeremy Thrush has just just become an All Black international last week. So that is 9 seasons after he was an under-19 international. Quite a long time.
Jan!!!
