Baby Boks play Baby Blacks for 3rd at JWC 2013

The game that no one ever wants to play takes place 15:15 this afternoon. South Africa and New Zealand have to find motivation from somewhere to lift themselves for this third-place playoff at the under-20 IRB Junior World Cup. Both will qualify for next year’s event and both will arrive there as possible finalists. So this game has little bearing on the future. With the Baby Boks having suffered the more agonising defeat in the semis, when Wales scored a last minute goal to beat them 18-17, they might take a bit longer to pick themselves up off the floor than New Zealand who were chasing the game they lost 33-21 to England for quite a while during that encounter.

The all Northern Hemisphere final between England and Wales kicks off at 16:45.

The SA u20’s have made several changes. Surprisingly Kwagga Smit is left on the bench, with Stoney Steenkamp moving to the side of the scrum to replace injured Roelof Smit. This gives an opportunity for Aidon Davis to start at no.8. Michael Willemse replaces Jacques du Toit at hooker. Pollard is back at flyhalf and a new centre combination sees Rohan Janse van Rensburg and Jesse Kriel teaming up.

@Grasshopper: , we really played well from time to time in this match, always nice winning against the all blacks. I am also happy to have egg on my face if the outcome can always be like this.

@bhkgpa: Yes, love it when I get egg on my face. Whenever I give up on the Boks they win, so reverse psychology. I am very superstitious and do the same with most sports. Well done to the team for showing some guts. Much better scrummaging performance in the second half…

21-7 – Good individual try by Obi. Kolbe also playing well as usual. Senatla also trying hard.

Down 14-0 after 15 mins. Our tight 5 are getting destroyed again. Our lineouts are a disaster. NZ showing us how to contest.
    Pollard not looking good again.
Too many mistakes – not looking good at all – missed tackles.
