Following the meeting of the Gauteng Heads of Boys’ Schools held in November 2016, no fewer than eleven Gauteng high schools were listed on a letter sent as a collective to Hilton College in same month.
The letter expressed concern over the transfer of boys from several Gauteng schools to Hilton College. It emphasised the issue at stake, made mention of what constitutes good values, asked for mutual respect and most importantly requested that Hilton refrains from “poaching” their players.…
The DPHS success story continues. A few million Rands worth of scholarship money will be invested in these 29 future Class of 2021 students over the next 5 years.…
All three KZN Sharks u18 Craven Week 2016 coaches have moved on from their respective high school posts and are no longer eligible for reappointment. The ripple-effect is a number of promotions and a few new appointments in the overall KZN Sharks youth week coaching set up for 2017.…
Former Springbok flyhalf Braam van Straaten has been appointed as the new St Charles College (Pietermaritzburg) fulltime Rugby Specialist with immediate effect. The positive vibes already coming out of St Charles, who’s rugby is set for another spike over the few year, speaks volumes about van Straaten’s potential to do an outstanding job as he’s made the great impression in next to no time at all. The 44-year-old former Wonderboom High School student is just one of many personal changes set to reshape the fairly small KZN Tier-1 rugby scene, which has a bit of a reputation for it’s high turnover of 1st XV rugby officials.…
Officials from KZN will meet today to discuss the high school Youth Weeks. If this was a meeting held in the Western Province it would be a celebratory occasion, fit for many high-fives, pats on backs and chest beating by various goal achieving officials. However it being KZN who are close to the opposite side of the success rate spectrum, the meeting can’t possibly revolve around many compliments particularly when it focuses its attention on Craven Week, unless of course window-dressing becomes the order of the day.…
The Monument Witbulle from Krugersdorp continued to build on their success rate against Glenwood of Durban ever since their interschool was established a few years ago, winning 40-15 this time around.…
Kearsney supporters had to bite their nails for a while but eventually got to celebrate Old Boys’ Day in style as their One-Stripes came from behind to beat a gutsy Hilton 20-8 on the Stott, avenging their loss to the same opponents in the Midlands earlier in the season. The high intensity match was a great advert for schoolboy rugby as both sets of players put their bodies on the line in an effort to manufacture a winning outcome, producing a good quality match in the process.…
One of the highlights of the KZN school rugby season is the Westville – Maritzburg College interschools day. It’s fair to say that neither school is enjoying a prosperous 1st XV year but that won’t distract from what is bound to be wonderful day filled with plenty of well-matched age group contests on Westville’s fields.…

Fortunes say Hilton to win at Michaelhouse today…
Glenwood progressed to the 2016 SANIX final by beating controversial Rotorua Boys’ High 29-12 in the semi final. They then beat Higashi Fukuoka of Japan 45-6 in the one-sided final.…
Hilton continues to exceed expectations this season and they are now on a four game winning streak. Last weekend they took down Kearsney and this weekend their victim was Westville who they beat 25-12, outscoring their visitors by three tries to nil in the process.…
Johannesburg visitors Jeppe produced a five-star first half backline performance on their way to recording a 46-14 victory against Northwood. The Jeppe backs combined brilliantly to exploit the spaces on the field. Using speed, superior handling and vision, they scored five tries in the first 35-minutes, helping their team to change ends at 41-7 to the good. All credit to Northwood as well. The second half score of 7-5 in the home team’s favour speaks volumes about a team that never threw in the towel and showed a lot of character.…
