Beeldtrofee 2012 semi-finals (and final) results

UPDATED (to include final results)
The Beeld Trofee 2012 for macro school’s has reached the semi-final stage.

The quarterfinal results were as follows:(national ranking at time of game alongside school name)
Quarterfinals
Middelburg (29)  25 25 Garsfontein (10)
Waterkloof (6)  46 21 EG Jansen (18)
Monnas (30)  21 8 HTS Middelburg (34)
Rustenburg  24 31 Kempton Park (21)

Monnas picked up an excellent win. Given their national rankings, the Lions region top team was expected to be in a run close by the Pumas second place team Middelburg HTS. Nevertheless Monnas won quite convincingly in the end. Bulls top ranked team Waterkloof recorded a big win against EG Jansen. However this is where some seem to have difficulty with the draw. EG Jansen was the top Valke team in this competition and Kempton Park the second ranked Valke team, yet Kempies was handed a much easier assignment against Rustenburg, the Leopards number one team by default. It would have made more sense if EG Jansen had been matched up with Rustenburg and Kempton Park squared off against Klofies. Not that Kempies would have minded. They have already beaten Klofies once this year. Garsfontein drew their Beeld Trofee game. In the case of a draw, rules state that the team scoring the first try progresses. It seems fair enough but it might have been far more interesting had the win been awarded to the team scoring last. The bottom line is that Garsies has been knocked out by Middelburg who scored the first try. In the previous round, the quality Centurion team suffered the same fate when they drew a match and were elimated by Kempies who scored the first try.

Saturday’s semi-finals with national rankings going into the game are:

Semi-finals
Middelburg (29) 27 32 Kempton Park (21)
Waterkloof (6) 12 23 Monnas (30)

Kempies win the Beeld Trophy for 2012.

Final
Kempton Park (21) 20 10 Monnas (30)

Waterkloof will miss their best player Rohan Janse Van Rensburg.
Not sure if Jaco Vd Walt is fit.IMHO Chris Massyn has been struggling his knee is not 100%.
It’s going to be a close game Monnas usually do well in the Beeld trophy.
