SA school rugby regional rankings 2012

Schoolboy rugby statistician Boishaaipa, who’s formula driven national rankings system is used by another website and often complimented as being the most accurate one in South Africa, has taken it upon himself to determine the “regional champions” for 2012. He has used the same formula and criteria that drives his national rankings and applied it to results achieved by schools within their own regions only. Interestingly unofficial national champions for 2012 Hoër Jongenskool Paarl Boys’ High School are also the Western Cape no.1 team, when results of Boland and SWD games are added to the mix. The Eastern Cape delivers a huge surprise in the form of Daniel Pienaar THS from Uitenhage. Grey College, Affies and Michaelhouse are predictably confirmed as regional champions of their respective regions.

@rugbyfan: Did Daniel Pienaar lose to Eastern Cape opponents tho? These rankings are the regional ones.

    If you go here:
    http://schoolboyrugby.co.za/blog/?p=1192

You will see that Dan Pienaar lost 3 and ended up 18th in SA overall.

Interested to know why Westville will not play College on reunion day? Glenwood again next year as they are happy to play.

@Griffon: The Easter holiday is a lot shorter in 2013, so I guess this increases the opportunity for more outside fixtures like WBHS vs PBHS

@ Star : If Westville get to play PBHS it would be a good fixture, considering last yeasr u16’s beat them at Skonk last year. Westville used to play them at rugby before organising KES annual fixtures. So playing 2 Gauteng in season could be a bit of a struggle to organise but it would be good if Westville could organize it. It would also be good if they played Glenwood and College twice. I had thought it would be good playing Kearsney twice, but due to its small numbers it would not be fair on the lower teams

@ Beet-Apparently they alternate the booking and it was their turn.Cannot really trust those MHS okes though as GC could have been a big banana skin.I have been told that Westville will be playing PBHS next year which should be a great fixture. I also wonder when the GW fixture list will be out for next year as it will be interesting to see who they will/wont be playing.

@All Black: I’m not sure if you are referring to this in your comment but if BHP’s system was that simplistic, Westville would have finished ahead of College in the regional rankings. The fact that College with less than a 50% win ratio still ended in the Top 25 nationally tells me that there is a lot more to the calculation than just beating weak teams. Those narrow defeats against good teams counted for something at the end of the day

@star: At the time George Campbell seemed very disappointed that the Michaelhouse game did not go ahead so I can’t believe they were responsible for the cancellation. There was also talk of the floodlights at Woodburn being out of commission??? The game was scheduled way to close to the KZN trials for comfort tho.

So you are saying that if College had played George Campbell, Pinetown and St Charles instead of PBHS, Affies and KES they would have got more points? Makes sense??????

The GC/MHS game was to be played on a Wednesday at Woodburn and apparently it was GC’s responsibility to book the venue which they failed to do.I think it was also during the KZN trials which might have complicated matters.

Please note that teams must at least have played 5 or more games against other regional teams to qualify.

    Interesting stats KZN

Glenwood & College 2 draws must have had a bearing on their final positions with the top 4 four all having lost 2 games each

would have been more interesting if all the teams played the same number of a games
