@beet, the decision to penalize Vd Berg every single time made no sense. Be that as it may, neither of our locks played against PRG and that contributed to our poor strumming.

@beet: luckily I didnt get hear his commentary then,as I was at the field that day.It just looked as if he were given a scrummaging lesson.Korff had his number the entire time he was on the field.

@phat55: vd Berg was on the receiving end of penalties during that PRG game. The ref seemed to ID him as the culprit each time.

I also cant say I liked Gareth Wrights commentary too much that day. He seemed overcritical and painted a very negative picture. Sounded like he had got out of bed on the wrong side that morning. He really climbed into vd Berg for one thing.

I like the idea of the younger players in the academy side to gain the experience. I wasnt at all impressed with vd berg the looshead from gim when prg played them recently, but hey maybe he had an off day.im a big fan of Wikus, hope he gets a shot.

@BuffelsCM:The player that I referred to in the last paragraph is Marais – he started in the C team against Boland on Wednesday.

Bertus Smit and JP Smith started at 1 and 3 respectively for the B side with Sadie replacing JP in the 2nd half. It seems that the younger players have the inside track for the Academy side which makes sense to me. By doing that they will be more experienced next year.

@beet: CF du Toit will be the 8, provided his rehab goes to plan. Otherwise it has to be between Luus and Abrahams.

@beet: Well, Korf started at 3 in the A team against Boland with Wikus Groenewald playing off the bench in the 2nd half at 3. IMO Marais will not make the Craven side. Groenewald can play at 1 as well and that will make him the ideal replacement for either Van den Berg or Korf at Craven Week.
The week before last week, the 2 players from Boishaai played against each other (after their return from Japan) and IMO the younger one did the best of the two in question.

It is interesting to note that he played in the C team against Boland. It seems the selectors have made their selections.

@beet: Tight head that impressed at the trials was JP Smith, but none of the other 3’s impressed me this year. vd Berg is the only quality loose head in this squad, the less said about the rest the better.

@phat55: I’m interested to see who gets named at no.8.

Also the no.3 between Korf and Marais

Anyway I hope they pick a nice small pack so that if KZN beats SWD we wont have too many hassles with WP size factor up front

@bhkgpa: I think it’d be a fair comparison IF wynberg played almost ALL the top teams around SA & ended up unbeaten & with the no1 ranking in SA, then maybe yes.

Only one name from Jab van Riebeek, and not the one we might have expected. What’s up there?

@Deon Pitzer: last year a PR supporter had a major problem with the WPu16 team wrt the fact that so little PR players made the team. My comment then was that maybe they are better as a team and a PR supporter told me in no uncertain terms that they dont agree with the comment. Funny now that the exact same comment is made by PR supporter wrt to the very good Wynberg team

@Grasshopper: Perhaps they are better as a team than individually. I think you may be too quick to make assumptions.

Wynberg only 2! My gosh people think their is bias in KZN! Wynberg have a great team this year, surely they can get more than 2 in the trials team?
