@Woltrui: Agreed – they were outstanding. Good to see MHS old boy Greg Oldfield contributing 40 with the bat in the final as well :-D

@tzavosky: Beg your pardon Tzavosky. Did not know you watched the Standerton BV game.
Is the Nellies BV game being played in Nelspruit or Tzaneen??

@Woltrui: No, Wolla, I never underestimate anyone. But I’ve seen enough games to know when a side is playing poor rugby. I also know when a team is simply poor!

Nelspruit will be tough, but it’s a fixture BV was trying hard to set up, so that part is good. However, there is more to this than meets the eye – both schools vie for the kids from the Hoedspruit area (and even Phalaborwa nowadays), so there’s a lot to play for!

Hi Beet, How good were our U/19 cricket team. Winning the world cup COMFORTABLY!!
The 2 Pretoria Boys High School boys, Aiden Markram and Bosch, playing a major role on the day. The St Stithian boitjie, Rabada, murdering the Ausies in the semi’s. I think they are still wondering what had hit them. Was it just me or did we win this competition by a country mile. We didn’t have a team coming close to our boitjies quality. 8-O

@jakes: Looking forward to the Tuks reeks. With the likes of Monnas, Garsies, Jansies, HTS and then also Transvalia in the mix it should be interesting.

@tzavosky: Thank you Tzavosky. Don’t underestimate Standerton Hoerskool Tzavosky. Every now and then they push a strong team on the field. You know that they had won the Noord-Vaal Girls U/19 hockey tournament against the likes of Waterkloof, Menlopark and Affies meisies a couple of seasons ago? Maybe it was a good team that pushed Ben Vorster. Anyhow I think a Nellies and BV schoolsports day would be very interesting

@ Lindenpa- Yes correction, Transvalia is playing in the Big(large) schools section of the Beeld trophy. They definitely had the teams the last few years to move up to the macro league…especially this year..

What on earth were Goudveld thinking to play their second string team against Grey. Must have been like touch rugby.

@jakes: Transvalia has been playing in the large schools division of the Beeld trophy for as long as I can remember. That team won the large schools division and not the medium schools. In fact, there is huge pressure on Transvalia to move up to the macro schools division of the Beeld trophy.

@BOG: We all know the depth of Grey’s rugby Bog.
In a game with a scoreline like that (in 40 minutes only) there are IMO no real winners

@BOG: Yes, the game was played at Brandfort rugby festival. Unfortunately I was not at the game, but according to reliable sources the Grey XV was the potential first team group and the Grey Barbarians the second team group. Barbarians won 26 vs 16 against Welkom Gymnasium. Both squads excluded cricket players and athletes.

@OudUppie: It was also not the first team of Grey. There were two teams from Grey, one an invitational 15 and the other a Grey Barbarian side. As I understand it, it was seen as an opportunity for trials. But, however you look at it, 111 in 40 minutes, must have been an unusual scene. I believe that this was played at a festival in Brandfort, but I stand to be corrected.

    @pongola: About : PRESEASON XV.

This was just to avoid any issues regarding the result’s place in the history books. Clearly all 3 schools started with teams which were not their strongest. Although the boys all played to win, this did not seem to be the motive for the coaches, otherwise the starting line-ups would have looked different.

I do not understand why Goudveld would be matched against Grey College. can someone explain the logic behind this? 111-0 final score..

@ Woltrui_ This Transvalia team comes a long way. I recall they played in the Nu power finals as under 15 team and lost the game in injury time, when they were in the lead. They also won the Beeld trophy, medium schools once or twice as far as I can recall, I know they won as under 16..Also another team to watch this year might be Brandwag(Benoni) who surprised by beating Florida.. This team gave Transvalia a very tough time when they were JNR teams. they had a brilliant team..

Just some perspective on the Grey vs Goudveld match. Volksblad this morning confirmed that it was not Goudveld’s first team, they were on a training camp. Not everybody gets the chance to play Grey – not wise to send the second stringers. Might have burned some bridges.

@Woltrui: Nelspruit play Ben Vorster on 8/3. Should be a nice, easy warm up for them, going by BV’s show against Standerton yesterday.

Transvalia winning HTS Middelburg. Big surprise. I wonder if Transvalia can be the surprise package at the Tuks reeks? With Tuks reeks starting on the 8th I wonder if Garsies and Nellies is going to start the tournament cold (no practice matches). Both schools were still involved in the Noord Vaal A bond athletics on Friday – 28/2.

An interesting result in Welkom. A Grey invitational side (trials, I believe) beat Goudveld 111 – 0 and the match was stopped after 40 minutes. The linesmen must have been exhausted.

The infamous red 3 Ltr Ford Cortina, with the lime coloured fur on the dash, was seen in Brandfort. I presume to give support to Klerksdorp. Obviously, to no avail.
