Future looks bright for Paul Roos

Paul Roos supporters would have been feeling down in the dumps since Saturday’s 8-40 drubbing by traditional season ending rivals Grey College on Markotter. The defeat brought to an end one Paul Roos’ worst year’s ever. THEY DID NOT EVEN WIN A GAME ON MARKOTTER THIS YEAR! UNBELIEVEABLE!

Just like a few of their other loses this season it was hard to pinpoint exactly where it all started to go wrong against Grey. At halftime, the home team was in the contest at just 3-6 down on a green heavy looking Markotter. However the second half produced five Grey tries. It seemed like Grey’s superior conditioning made the difference. The visitors from Bloemfontein were strong in contact, particularly in one-on-one challenges in which their upperbody strength came to the fore – brushing off would-be tacklers and in so doing generating line-breaks. The support work, handling and speed was also notable.

This is Paul Roos’ second below par season in a row however the next few years look very promising for the Stellenbosch school that has produced more Boks than any other.Watch this space, Paul Roos are going to bounce back big time in 2014.

@phat55: snert man……laasjaar se onder 16’s het niks te make met hierdie jaar se gesukkel nie…..’n klomp van 2013 se 1ste span spelers was ook laasjaar ..2012..deel van Thys se 1ste span…..haker,flank,losskakel,heelagter ens…….en het almal gesukkel om hierdie jaar iste span te speel………..talentvolle seuns …….so jou redenasie werk nie vir my nie……..swak spankeuses………swak plaasvervangers……….en mater ek dink nie daar kan van hierdie jaar se onder 16 groep sommer in ‘n 1ste 15 instap volgende jaar………hulle moet in laer spanne as ‘n groep gehou word…..Boishaai doen dit baie mooi……opgepas word…….en hoop hulle kom so deur……met die uitsondering van 1 of 2 spelers natuurlik……

in some ways this result(8-40) was slightly predictable coz the PRG u16s of last year took a hiding against GCB in Bloem with a very similar score to this years 1st team vs Grey and quite a few of those boys were involved in PRG’s 1st team of this year.now I know that theory doesnt always hold true but it can be a very good indicator imho as those players generally face off for 3 or 4yrs & knowing u can win or knowing how big a hiding uve taken against those same players/team before makes a huge difference on the psyche…..
the results of our u14/15/16s vs Grey & their current ranking nationally shows there is loadsa potential coming through but as usual a huge amount of hard work lies ahead for those boys & their respective coaches(hope Hein Kriek stays as 1st team coach)
I hope the next few years of 1st team rugby @ PRG are bright coz the last year or 2 has hurt quite a bit to say the least
lastly a mention to Grey College for always producing a consistently strong team over the years & not being like most schools that have good & bad patches fairly often

To the author: I agree that things are looking up. Hard work, however is going to be needed. Fortunately the coach allready knows the u 16’s coming through as well as the grade 11’s that played for him this year. He coached the u 16’s to an unbeaten u15 year. That is if he remains.

@Mike: Not too sure but I think quite a few. About half the team, if not more. The strong u 16 group also reporting for duty!
