Noordvaal Cup 2026 Premier League Underway

The prestigious Noordvaal Cup finally gets underway, with the 2026 Premier League once again promising a fiercely competitive battle among Gauteng and North West’s top rugby schools.

One of the standout opening fixtures sees Helpmekaar host Garsfontein in a mouth-watering clash. The Bere enter as favourites, while the Bruin Reuse will be desperate to bank early points and strengthen their chances of remaining in playoff contention when the business end of the season arrives.

As the competition kicks off, Garsfontein remain the team to beat and are widely tipped to claim a remarkable fourth consecutive Noordvaal title.

Monument, however, loom as the most likely challengers. If Monnas can consistently perform to their true potential, they should be breathing down the Bere’s neck throughout the campaign.

Beyond the leading pair, the race for the remaining two knockout spots could develop into a proper scrap.

Waterkloof have been one of the stories of the season so far, already securing silverware thanks to their impressive form. Menlopark are not far behind that pace, while Helpmekaar’s ceiling is also high enough to suggest they cannot be discounted from the playoff conversation.

Noordheuwel, by contrast, endured a nightmare start to 2026, but there are signs the ship has steadied. If recent performances are anything to go by, they may yet mount a serious push for a postseason berth.

Just below that cluster, EG Jansen and Rustenburg appear set for a battle of their own as they look to force their way into contention.

For newly promoted Middelburg, however, the early signs are less encouraging. Their results to date have offered little indication that they are equipped to cope with the relentless demands of Premier League rugby, with a steep learning curve likely awaiting them in the weeks ahead.
