Former Glenwood head coach Derek Heiberg, who parted ways with the South Durban Green Machine earlier this year, appears poised to become Durban High School’s next major coaching acquisition.
While his exact role within the DHS setup is yet to be defined, his arrival is expected to further strengthen an already impressive coaching line-up. The programme currently includes the services of former Kearsney College head coach Neil van Heerden, who joined ahead of the 2025 season. DHS stands to benefit significantly from the wealth of experience Derek brings to the table.
In an interesting turn of events, one of the coaches who filled the void left at Glenwood following Derek’s departure is Ruan Lombard — himself a former DHS head coach. He has since teamed up with Justin Hollis, and the pair have formed a notably strong coaching unit.

could i please get your email adress @grasshopper?
DHS have been scooping up so many coaches. Not sure where they will all fit in. Will also take some strong leadership to keep them all aligned.
