thank you, much appreciated. I know, from experiencing many disappointing losses against HJS, that Saterday’s result was tough for your supporters, and I felt for the young Boishaai team which struggled on the day. I am however sure HJS will be back big-time next year. As for the game, for a second year in a row Gim destroyed the Boishaai lineout. Kudus to Helmut. As a result, Boishaai had limited possession and struggled to exit their half. Gim’s kicking game was superior and Boishaai overplayed in the wrong areas. Ploegskaar predicted that Gim would win if they were patient and played in the right areas. He was spot-on as Gim obliged. On the day, there were exceptional performances for Gim from numbers 2,4,8,9,10 and 12. I liked the look of Boishaai’s nr 5, he will be a big thread next year. Interestingly, after some research I can confirm that Saturday’s Gim maul try was the first maul try that Gim scored against HJS since 1978! Also, another astonishing fact is that Gim did not concede a maul try this entire season. Marnus also deserves huge credit for the way our defense functioned all season. In many ways this victory was the perfect response from Pieter Rossouw to the many critics in the Gim stable that have not realised that we have one of the finest coaches in SA.

I also thought the Gim scrum did very well. But for me the big difference was the loose forwards in combination with the #4 lock – tackled like crazy and secured every ruck.
HJS will be strong next year, in a strong age group. On 2023 results I expect Affies, Helpmekaar, Grey, PRG, HJS, Oakdale, Rondebosch to field strong teams along the N1 highway.

Gim het uitstekend gevaar in alle sporte. Net die netbal was gelyk maar amper alle A spanne in alle sporte het gewen. Dit gebeur maar min.

Well done Paarl Gym. You have outplayed us totally on the day. No excuses. We take it on the chin and next year we will be trying again. Rugby is a tough task master and sometimes you just have to accept the defeat and get up again the next day with determination to do better. We are still super proud of our magnificent school.

Any which way Gim would have scored, no one would have stopped Gim from that position, whether the flag correctly remained down or not. Well done to the Gimmie players being wake-up enough. I will not call it a defining moment really as Gim would have won whether they scored that try or not. Nothing like the 2022 clear non try that was strangely awarded and determined the outcome of the match. Well done #gimmieguts. Beautiful.

It would not be Paarl Interskole if there was not one defining moment involving a try being scored or disallowed. This year the AR flag up when the ball was clearly still in moment resulted in a Gim try when Boishaai stopped playing. The final score of 30-8 to Gim probably stopped it from being a big talking point.

Sjoe that game did not turn out as expected.
I was waiting for Boishaai to kick into higher gears but they just could not get going. Gim dominated most of the match. Their turnover game at the rucks was clinical and the counter attacks really good. Only criticism can be that while there was still a game to be won, Gim left points on the field.
Lots of stars for Gim on this big occasion. For me Melt Viljoen coming back from that broken arm at WP trials and Nicholas Nel are two of the most underrated players in SBR this season.|
For HJS again one has to say a young team that faced a massive ask. For the second year running massive questions about their lineout game. Something that surely should have been fixed long before this great derby.

Gimmie I have always enjoyed your views , and also in this case agree with your opinion. Only someone who has played under the intense pressure will understand how challenging the game is. The Boishaai team is very young and they will have to step up massively under this pressure. What a privilege to be part of something so special.

the facts contradict your statement, Gim, after losing very close games against Grey (missed 4 kicks in last 20 minutes) and Paul Roos, had comprehensive victories against a strong Oakdale on the farm (the score flatters Oakdale as Gim never looked like losing), Rondebosch (away) SACS, Wynberg (away) and Durbanville. Boishaai, in turn recovered from losses by winning against Wynberg, Affies, Grey and PRoos by beating Bishops (unfortunately a very weak Bishops), Rondebosch, SACS and B Landbou. Both teams have therefore performed in line with expectations recently. The 2024 Paarl Gim side is not the most talented and have exceeded my expectations through hard work and lots of determination. They have obvious weaknesses (which I am sure Sean will have identified), our pack is small and lack destructive ball carriers, but they are terriers that will defend for their lives. As for Boishaai, I am amazed that a team with 9 or 10 grade 11s can do so well. I have never seen a Gim or Boishaai team with that many youngsters.

agree with your views, there are several subplots which will be fascinating to watch. In 2022 HJS’s defense stopped all Gim’s momentum from 9 through unbelievable D. I expect the same theme with Gim trying to impose their free-flowing multi-phase attacking game and Boishaai’s rush D posing problems. Boishaai is the best breakdown team in SA and if they manage to slow down Gim’s ball then it will put us in great difficulty. The Ref, Amy, will play a crucial role here. Boishaai’s lineout has had problems all year, but I expect Sean to have different plans for Saturday. Quick throws to front prop will also probably be used like last year. Helmut is a master lineout technician but sometimes the players struggle to execute under the intense pressure. Interestingly, there has not been a maul try in interschools for a very long time. Gim, certainly, has not scored a maul tries against Boishaai for more than 10 years. Boishaai has played with more width this year and has been very dangerous playing from deep and with intelligent strike moves. Mentoor looks very comfortable at 12 and is a very good kicker. I think Boishaai has a slight edge in the pack, but Gim has the better backline with 12, 13 and 14 being outstanding players. It is going to be a fascinating contest, and it will again, like always be a very close game. Spare a thought for the 2 exceptional coaches, I wish both of them all the best for the game. Fortunately, this time I am pretty confident that Pieter’s future is not dependent on Saturday’s result. I hope it is the same for Sean as he has done an amazing job in his 7 years at Boishaai.

I stand to be corrected, but both sides should have all their players available for selection. Makes a nice change from some of the other interschools where some of the shine is taken off.

Weather not looking too bad, but underfoot conditions may be tricky and could even things up. If Gim play in the right areas with patience, they should come out tops, but this young HJS group is also a well coached and gritty bunch that are very committed on D. Gim will keep coming and HJS won’t go away, so sure to be an enjoyable watch for the neutrals

As impossible as it looked at the start of the season, I think BHS will go into this match with a distinct advantage among the forwards. BHS’ wings are also quality. As has been the case in the past few years, I am slightly unconvinced by BHS’ centre pairing matching up to Gim’s. That could well be the difference.

The underdog-tag will suit the boys in blue perfectly, but a Boishaai win will not be an upset. They will study the Grey vs Gim game in detail, especially if the weather is okay. I call a 1 point-game.

No ways friend Beet. To loose this game is plain horrible and gutting. The feeling has nothing to do with level of expectation or who the favourites are. Neither school can stomach a loss as one loose bragging rights for 12 months. Lets be realistic though , Gim is the overwhelming favourites and play a lethal attacking game with 2 brilliant game changers at 12 and 13. Boishaai will start the game with 10 out of the 15 boys still available next year. It will be a cracker of a game and the blue army will give it all.
