Now there are 3 Westville vs College matches in 2013

With St Charles declining the opportunity to play against Westville at the Wartburg Festival on Saturday 09 March 2013, the organisers were forced to pair Westville and Maritzburg College. This means that the two schools would have played each other three times this season by the time the 15-June main game at Goldstones in Pietermaritzburg rolls around.

College already has three fixtures against Glenwood as a result of the KZN Top Schools Rugby Festival game at Kings Park being added to the two existing annual clashes.

Full programme for the Wartburg Festival:

09h00 : Linpark vs Werda
09h00 : Howick vs DBN
10h05 : Carter vs Grosvenor
10h05 : Alex vs Kingsway
11h10 : Westville 2nd XV vs Weston
11h10 : Scottburg vs Ixopo
12h15 : Pongola vs Kokstad
12h15 : Estcourt vs New Forest
13h20 : Thomas More vs King Edward
13h20 : St.Henrys vs Heritage
14h30 : Wartburg vs Crawford
15h40 : Westville vs College

    Northwood

1st thing that came into my head – Northwoods’ not getting any bangs for their bucks so far !

Beating Porties and GC at the Nite series maybe have given N Wood false sense of security

Sounds like a bit of a klap here – having seen Kearsney at KP – not surprised though

Feeling is that the Green Machine are going to find it tough at Bothas Hill next week

@GreenBlooded: No excuses. The players filling in for the Doops are good players. They need to show their worth now. :)

@beet: Thanks. We should have a Superbru competition for SBR. If the Doops and Tedder are playing – Kearsney by 30. If not, Kearsney by 12.

@star: SCC bailed from Wartburg Fest altogether. The most postive thing I can think of is they felt they were not ready for rugby yet.

They are also not at the Top Schools Fest tonight.

@ Beet- no one seems to have asked the obvious question. Why did St Charles decline the opportunity to play Westville? I apologise if I seem a bit paranoid.

@star: Yup – that is also an option. If it’s at Kearsney (??) it will be much closer to home. Also has the advantage of featuring 2 teams that Glenwood will play against.

@ Greenblooded- what about the Kearsney /Northwood game? With all the hype about both teams surely a must see for a neutral. And it is a proper domestic fixture with all teams playing.

@GreenBlooded: Dont get me wrong, College will try and get as close to their team as possible and will always go all out. Cricket and water polo have been a problem though for all schools so tonight will be the first time some players have held a rugby ball this season. Same for everyone though. I would suggest that matches will be competitive but all sides will be trying different combinations. Not just College.
Beet: Not worried about rankings. Serve no purpose.

@GreenBlooded: The game in PE only starts at 7pm so you do have time to watch the school games.

Don’t be so sure about what happens in PE either.

@All Black: If that is the case I might well review my plans on Saturday. I thought I might get to see a 2nd proper game of school rugger before the official season started. May just end up on the couch watching the Sharks knock 7 shades out of the Cheeky Watson’s mob.

@All Black: I don’t want to be guilty of trying to build it up to be something its not intended to be. Both College and Westville are on the same page with regards to treating the match as a warm-up game.

But unlike tonight’s matches and the night series, it seems like all the proper rules will apply – 60-70min game, normal replacement rules in play, which suggest that it has to be recorded as a proper game.

I don’t make the rules tho. :) Those that prepare the rankings will have to decide what to do.

@beet: I think College still using Saturday as a warm up game. Season starts against GC the following week.

    @beet:
Most likely injured. Don’t read too much into that squad, I can think of 5 changes that are still going to happen. Change at hooker, prop, lock, inside centre, outside and even wing. Watch out for D.Kriedemann though, not the biggest but his ball fetching skills are sublime
