BoishaaiPa suggested this a few months back: a look at the various April (and 01 May) 2017 schoolboy rugby fixtures with the aim of determining which school has the hardest fixture list during this jam-packed period. So the million dollar question being asked is: “who got the X2 Magic Mountain ride?” and just for the fun the billion Zim dollar question: “who’s got the easiest ride?”

@Roger:
All the gals have gone…….hahahahaha. Boggy, Greeny and Hoppie
I reckon Gawie got them out…….bad boy Gawie!!!
Hoppie must be going berserk reading all this as I even unfriended him on FB, how we gonna talk now?
@BoishaaiPa: Yeah the table needs updating now. Boishaai will definitely be pushing themselves to the limit come April.
Looking at Paarl Boys NZ schedule they now have 9 games in the period 1 Apr to 1 May..Tough enough?
@BrotherBear…agreed!
Bulls suggestive comments on expansive game.
They taking the ball too far from the heavies something has got to give and things will not change untill they rethink this strategy
@Skopgraaf243: don’t know when the BB (and springbok) fascination with size will stop. BB loosies were nowhere. Only their 8th-man ended up being in the right place twice – 2 good tries. Stormer also much better ball in hand. Could see some Bulls tried the timed offloads, but generally poor execution and dismal set phase.
Boerboel…Like the re-launch of the new oh sorry old Nokia phone, I think the Bulls are having relaps moments of those years way back when
Nollis Marais can’t say much about forwards as he has to stop making reference to when they could scrum as appose to when they should scrum.
Trevor and Pollard maybe had same breakfast.
Both very poor.
Setpieces setpieces setpieces.
– restore factory settings
Roger…Did you also fall into that trap backing the sharks?.
…only thing was I had two of those disappointments, sharks AND bulls.
Or shall I say guppies and weaners.
All good prospects of things to come but right now, good for nothing
and then the Chiefs went to beat the Highlanders, to me this was the surprise of the weekend.
Bulls scrummaging has been bad for 10 plus years-get the idea that the coaching in that area is lacking
@McCulleys Workshop…Noordvaal schools the majority get non athletes preparing from early January already.
The trials commences after Inter athletics, some started past saturday, others today, or some only next week.
First outing coming weekend in Tuks series. Next week Blue bull evening etc.
So majority should be at strength come easter, however injuries and athletes can bring some late changes.
I was really disappointed with the way the Bulls looked and looked.
Why would they go on the park wearing simular colours?
…and then they lost this outing before they went on the park, ’cause in my opinion they did not pitch mentally for that fixture.
Really sad to say the least.
We always have this slipprey slope start.
Yes it is only the beginning of the comp. but they struggled.
Bulls forwards having front row tickets watching the Stormers game
..and the bulls 6,7&8 just looked too heavy getting around the park, opening the door for Kolisi and his troops.
Bulls backs was misfiring like a very old beetle. Flashes of great things looking ahead, but bad decisions cost us dearly at times.
Van Zyl could’ve come on much sooner.
Our first choice #9, “two step&pass” also did not make things easier at the back.
Pollard had a dissimal start to his 2017, and I’m sure he would want to make good on that.
Well done to the Stormers though, good start to thier campaign.
GO BULLS!
@McCulleys Workshop: Thanks. That one is fixed.
@BoishaaiPa: my super-bru is in its “moer in”. The bloody guppies started the rot and it got worse from there
@beet: Beet your link to WP 2017 fixtures takes me to Noordvaal (Could be a Garsies conspiracy). What is interesting to note is that by and large most of the Noordvaal schools get in 3/4 or more games (EG 6) before hitting the Easter Tournaments, which should mean they are well prepared and have worked out combo’s etc. this excludes KES (1), Parktown (1) and PBH (2). In KZN DHS have 4 games before Easter, Kearsney 3, Ville and HC 2 and GW, MHS and MC 1 each. This has to be a disadvantage to go into 3 games over 5 days with very little game time.
@boerboel: Unfortunately that list is growing. Anyway time to change your tune now. Lets have some constructive comments from you.
I hear HJS are/were having problems with getting players cleared for NZ due to strict regulations and time is running out fast
@GreenBlooded: what growing list-you and porky?–goodbuy
@beet:
You can sommer add me to that growing list as well.
Please delete my login.
@beet: Ag no man..Tell him to come back…He must relax and not take the jibes too personal. To me it looks like a couple of his mates is taking the piss..they know way to much about him!.
@Roger: My Superbru did not start off well, but ended well.. . I was also pleasantly surprised by the intensity that the Stormers showed and the speed of play. I was impressed by EW Viljoen’s decision making at 13 and solid defence. Of course I will always have blue tinted glasses when watching JL Dup and SP Marais, but both also had solid games (even acknowledged by my Affies and Blue Bulls mate!)
Poor old Hopper – he just can’t help himself – never knew when to walk away and when to stay and fight
@BoishaaiPa: how good were those Stormers – Siya Kolisi MOM, with Pieter Steph Du Toit, Damian De Allende (where has he been for 18 months!) and Jano Vermaak up there too. I picked them to win but not that emphatically.
Can’t wait for Stormers Lions clash!
Hi All
Grasshopper has left the blog for good now.
@Grasshopper: Last week you tweeted that the Stormers is a bit light up front..If they are light what is your opinion of the Bulls then after this weekend?..Featherweights?
Must be Paarl Gim and Boland Landbou.
@Grasshopper: Hence I said ‘seems’.It could be an ‘alternative fact’
@Playa: that’s a big claim, do you know for sure? Jaco Coetzee is in the Stormers squad which is great for him
@Grasshopper: Reckon not so much for the Sharks…seems he had some strong behavioural views which were frowned upon by the people high up and as a result was given the option to leave…also known as being banned.
@Grasshopper: As long as the fight is not at altitude you have a good chance.
@McCulleys Workshop: Have you been to Jersey? It’s actually amazing in Summer
@Grasshopper: I didn’t know, and I’m going to reserve any comment other than I thought he had great potential. I have a kid who hangs in the same circles.
The more entertaining bit is the coach, whose name is Harvey Biljon. His parents were confused!
Jersey is a dreadful place…
Paul Roos not the most games but definitely the toughest!
@McCulleys Workshop: off topic, did you see Schramm has gone! Big loss to the Sharks & SA rugby. http://www.jerseyreds.je/news/2016-17/ayron-arrives-as-trios-departure-is-confirmed.aspx
@Playa: It seems to me that BL have the toughest start to the season.
I don’t think House have a particularly challenging month (not that they normally do), that being said Im not sure of their relative strength this year.
To my mind the school with the easiest start given what’s been said about them having a very strong side and possibly finishing top 1 or 2 this year, is Grey Bloem.
@Rugbymal: all tough as we respect ALL opposition. Westville is our derby game and always tough.
Helpmekaar should be in Top 5 after their easy April as well.
@Grasshopper: And the rest.
@Skopgraaf243: Dis nou wat kom van net stilbly en speel wat jy kry. Maar wat ‘n voorreg is dit nie vir hierdie groep om hulle te meet teen die beste, memories for life en niks om te verloor
@Rugbymal: Playing Garsies and Boishaai in a row ain’t easy.
@Riempies: From an insider’s perspective, there are no high expectations for this year’s group. A hardworking and tough bunch, but no stars. This year’s fixtures would probably have suited 2016’s class better, but we will play with the cards that we have been dealt
Most difficult Boland Landbou, EGJ
The 2 team with most difficult also the 2 teams with the least depth.
Easiest Monnas, Garsfontein, Glenwood.
@boerboel: Glenwood was coached by one Sean Erasmus back then. That might tell you a lot.
Boland by far. Small number of boys. Huge expectation and I believe they going to win a good amount of their matches.
@boerboel: Just to remind you of the rankings for 2016; http://schoolboyrugby.co.za/?p=14506
All 3 of the wins mentioned were Top20 sides, EG (6th), Dale College (10th) and Kearsney (16th).
http://www.saschoolsports.co.za/rugby/national/first-xv-rugby-the-final-totalsports-100-rankings-for-2016.html
Dale (5th), Kearsney (7th) and EG Jansen (13th)….have a little more respect…
Boland Landbou for me…with Paarl Gim a close 2nd
If one was to take the strength (or lack of ) of a school in 2016 as a consideration of toughness of fixtures, I’d say Pretoria Boys High have quite a rough schedule ahead of them.
@boerboel: EG Jansen, Dale College, Kearsney and Rotorua were all decent teams. Have a little more respect for those teams. Take your Boishaai sunnies off china…
Julle tel dalk goeie elastoplast borg op, om manne bymekaar te hou
Ploegskaar…janee julle gaan ook die houe moet plant. Geen energie te mors vir fist pumps nie
Boland Landbou the toughest, St Stithians the “easiest” list by far!!!!!
@beet: I think due to costs not all the players can go, that happened with Glenwood last year to SANIX so they took under16, 2nd and 3rd team players. It must have cost around R60k per player, maybe more.
Sorry all. In my own very weak defence, I tried again yesterday to obtain details of Paarl BH’s tour to NZ. However the details are not officially available to the public yet and at this stage I’m not even certain if the proper Boishaai 1st XV will be on duty or if they will play combo teams to give all players a chance???
Anyone willing to leak info please contact me
All five of Boland Landbou’s opponents are serious Top 10 contenders so for toughness definitely them. EG are going to require good depth and rotate the squad. There is literally only a couple of days between games. Glenwood had that at SANIX last year, about 5 games in 10 days. I think that is what drained Glenwood for the rest of the season. They were sitting ducks for EG Jansen to take them apart, which they did. EG will see how it affects the latter part of their season….
M College only has 4 games in this period and not the toughest of opponents lined up bar Grey High..
Paul Roos, Paarl Gim and Selborn are some of the more tougher fixtures.
The easier easter would in my opinion go to Grey Highschool.
EG if number of games is taken into account..Boland, Gim and Garsies if toughness/strenghth of opposition is taken into account. Selborne has 5 tough games with one slightly less tough.
Outeniqua. Paarl Gym.
EGJ has a thriller and Maritzburg seem to have quite a light one
Boland Landbou for me, Eish!!!
For me it’s still EG with that Ap-Riller maand. 8 nowhere to run nowhere to hide games spread across 3 festivals plus a Tuks playoff match which could result in them taking on another high quality opponent.
Plus they have a brand spanking new coaching staff on top of that.
