BHP Top 50 – week ending 09 May 2015

NB NOTE from BHP: Having looked at all the results and what our sliding scale produced in ranking outcomes, I have standardised the formula on the following:

  1. For a loss of 5 points or less – 70% of Opponents Category Points.
  2. For a loss of between 6 and 10 points – 40% of Opponents Category Points.
  3. Draw gives you 80% of Opponents Category points.

This has resulted in a slight change in the formula and therefore the need to recalculate last week’s Top 50 comparitive.

5 games required to qualify, therefore Boland Landbou appear on the rankings for the first time.

    @McCulleys Workshop: Hahahaha!
“Could probably…” not a definite. I don’t think one could call an outright winner if there were to be a ‘Tri-Schools’ competition between the 3. In fact, those who believe that other results agains similar opposition would probably say NW would come last.

    2015 results:
    Bosch drew with KES
KES went down 20-16 to a QC that put 50 against NW (50-19)
Bosch beat a DHS who beat NW
KES beat a Westville who beat NW

@Playa: Just beating my rankings drum – we all know roughly who the top 3 or 4 sides are, but outside of that, the swings from week to week make you realise you can’t place any reliance on past performance, and that there is no merit to the rankings. This is not a go at BHP, but just the fluidity of the game at school boy level where so many factors play a role.

@McCulleys Workshop: I wouldn’t say Rondebosch and KES are weak. Both, in my view could probably beat Northwood – so it would have been fair for you to include House as one of the teams that played weak opponents this past weekend.SACS and Affies, though the latter had a shaky start, are just strong this year, period.

@Anti Green: Of course it is. The real test of the formula will be this week, will MHS retain their rightful place after their convincing win which was cut short by dubious reffing standards, allowing their game to be stopped early, or will they be overrun by Nellies, SACS and Affies, who all played weak opponents.

@BoishaaiPa. Wenk: ‘n Formule is so goed as sy common sense.

Thats the way the cookie crumbles.

Sterkte daar.

Saterdag teen Kloof gaan insiggewend wees.

@Tandem: Dear Tandem, Unfortunatly I cannot manipulate the outcomes of the games!…We have a slightly lower avg per game than PR due to us playing slightly lower category teams early in the season. If we keep winning..or our Paarl Neighbors surprise them at Markotter we can still slip in at No 1. For now I am just happy for us to be in the Top 10. There is still plenty of difficult games to come..We have played 5 of the current top 20…still have to play another 5!

I can see why Westville are out of the top 20 given how inconsistent they’ve been this season, but, are College really the number 2 side in KZN or did they just have an off day getting given 50 by Glenwood. Secondly, Michaelhouse number 5 in the country, are they really that good this year? Seems a little high to be in the top 5.

Sodra julle meer begin wen sal julle opskuif. Hier is julle ontleding per game.

    Opp BP Cat Points
    Lions Inv 0.5 2
    Nelspruit 0 0
    HJS Paarl 0 0
    Nelspruit 0 5
    Marais Viljoen 0.5 2
    EG Jansen 0 0
    Outeniqua 0 0
    Paarl Gim 0 0
    Kempton Park 3.15 0
    Pietersburg 0 3
    Ermelo 0 3.5

Ek haal my hoed af vir julle. So hats off vir julle buurman. Julle maak ons ook trots.

    Sorry Guys

In an effort to get the Rankings out in a hurry yesterday, I omitted an adjustment of last week’s rankings.

Also the Stellenberg vs WCSS result had not been updated.

Boland Landbou appear for the first time because they had not played the 5 game minimum last week.

Dis bloot net ‘n opmerking…. Use it, dont use it…

Please remember that the formula for close losses has changed…we were busy experimenting with it the last two weeks and is only now stabilizing. Last week and this week cannot be compared in reality. This is what last weeks ranking would have looked like based on the now stabilized formule we used from this week…

Beet confused us all by using last week’s ranking as a base for movement which he should not have, We did say we are busy with fine tuning.

@QBE: The ratio gained for losses changed..Teams can move up and down because their avg changed less or more over the period and in relation to other teams around them. Bellville avg points per game will be lower even after the win as they played a very lowly ranked team in HTS.
