Having beaten Australia’s Brisbane Boys’ College 35-3 in Japan to become the fourth South African team to claim the international Sanix title, Paul Roos Gymnasium must now set their eyes on achieving a far more unique and possibly more prestigious goal – the powerhouse grand slam!
Winning the Sanix must feel like a 150th birthday come early for the Stellenbosch school. Although it contains some very easy games, in its entirety the Sanix tournament is a massive challenge to win as it consisting of six matches in just eight days with the hardest two games by far falling on the last two days. So definitely no mean feat for the Maroon Machine who are the first Saffa team since 2008 to return home victorious.
This year’s local fixture list has presented Paul Roos with the opportunity to take on Affies and Monument in addition to their annual inter-schools matches against Paarl Gymnasium, Paarl Boys High, and Grey College which sets up a potential grand slam season.
With victories against the two Noordvaal big guns secured (Affies 29-12, Monnas 17-13), Paul Roos is 40% of the way towards a grand slam.
However the schoolboy rugby results of this year’s season to date suggests that there is an even greater concentration of strength in the Western Cape than in most years. Therefore in-between trying to claim the remaining 60% needed by overcoming the very strong challenges of Gimmies, Boishaai and traditional season ending rivals Grey College, Paul Roos will have to contend with the likes of Wynberg, Rondebosh, SACS, Oakdale, Bishops and Boland Landbou as part of one of the toughest schedules on offer in SA schoolboy rugby.
The next game up for the Sanix champions is a home match against Paarl Gim on Saturday 16 May 2015.
@<a href@Losbal: You just need to ask Mr Beet for a beatiful blue jersey , he is very generous.
@Tandem: sal graag my Boishaai trui wil kry. My eie pas nie meer so lekker. Ongelooflik hoe die NyLon krimp oor die jare.
@Maroon: Sou reken jy sal die Bloedworse ondersteun. Jou naam gee jou game weg.
@Die Ken: Ja nee wragtag.
@Maroon: @PaarlBok: Waar staan dit geskryf!
@PaarlBok: We will do our best sir .
@Losbal: Never . I rather take win with 1 point . Why dont you have a Boishaai jersey next to your name ?
Baie geluk Paul Roos. Well done gents!
150 jaar is ‘n groot mylpaal in enige skool se geskiedenis.
As Galpil sal ek vanjaar ‘n draw teen julle vat. Maar net die jaar!
@Maroon: well said!!
@BoishaaiPa: Daar is ‘n paar sulke skille vanjaar! Boland Landbou, Rondebosch, Bishops.
Good luck boys. The only way to be better than last year, is to finish number 1 this year, but I agree with phat55. One game at a time!!!!
Gongrats Paul Roos! You do yourself proud in your very special year. Good luck for your next goals.
One game at a time……
