Kearsney may have to go into battle against Grey College without the services of lock Dan du Preez, flank Jean-Luc du Preez and centre Sandile Kubeka. All three are in the 28-man SA Schools squad that will take on England, France and Wales in a quadrangular series beginning on Friday, 10 August. Although the SAS squad players are only set to meet up in the Cape on Sunday 05 August, it seems like a number of them will be relieved of their SBR commitments for this weekend.
Kearsney has experienced cover for the du Preez twins in Mitch du Toit and Guy Francis but with Blair Cremer and Jason Valenti out of action, they are left without a qualified outside centre.
Kearsney travels to Bloemfontein for this out of their norm third term match. The introduction by Grey College of under-16 coach Wessel du Plessis as an assistant has certainly paid dividends. Grey are very much an in-form team at the moment with comfortable victories over Pretoria Boys High and Grey PE in recent weeks under the belt. The game will be a curtain raiser to the Cheetahs versus Cardiff Blues clash at the Free State Stadium. The guest of honour is outgoing long servicing Grey headmaster Johan Volsteedt.
heard it was a bad day for Kearseny
Here’s an interesting bit of useless information.
The 2012 Grey College team does not have single current SA Schools representative (captain Pieter Jordaan played in 2011).
The last time this happened was in 1996 = 17 seasons ago!
