Affie’s RG Snyman called up to SA Schools

Rudolph Gerhardus Snyman or just plain RG Snyman was we know the 2.05 metre tall giant from Affies has been called up to replace JD Schickerling in the SA Schools team to face England, France and Wales in an international under-18 series to be held during August.

Schickerling, an SA Schools player from 2012 missed Craven Week due to injury but his impressive form during the 2013 season was enough to earn him the nod from the selectors, this after early indications were that he would be fit on time for the international window. However a setback in his recovery has now ruled him out of contention and paved the way for Snyman to come on board.

RG Snyman has been the Affies first choice lock for the past two season. He is a pedigree as far as school rugby is concerned having been there and done that. It all started with representing the Blue Bulls at the under-13 Craven Week in 2008. He took the next progressive step by attending the under-16  Grant Khomo Week as a Bulls player in 2011. He went one better by being identified as one of the elite players in the under-16 age-group and attended the SA High Performance squad training camp.  After showing good early season form, his 2012 season came to a premature end as a result of a shoulder injury. This deprived him of the opportunity to compete at Craven Week 2012. In 2013 he has once again been an integral part of the highly successful Affies team. Craven Week 2013 did not go to plan for the Blue Bulls and Snyman looked liked he had lost out on a chance to complete this school rugby full house until he received word of his late SA Schools call-up.

Baie geluk jongman – al is dit n laat oproep is enige keuring vir die nasionale spanne n groot eer en iets om oor trots te wees. As ek na die geskiedenis kyk is dit in elk geval wel verdiend. Sterkte!
