Zwartkop hasn’t played Wynberg as far as I am aware? Hard to really know how good they are as they haven’t played and don’t often play against any of the top sides? They struggled to beat Klerksdorp and Montana which aren’t exactly rugby powerhouse schools!

I think we must acknowledge what is going on at HS Zwartkop. They are getting some amazing results, is this a team and rugby programme on the rise?
Northwood was potent. Gim is next level potent. They absolutely dismantled a very decent Wynberg team, it’s just scary how good they were.
St John’s win over Pretoria Boys High is in my opinion an excellent result for them, they have managed it a number of times in recent years, with a fraction of the rugby players and boys in the school.
Parktown Boys High had a very good victory over St Stithians, although I feel St Stithians played very well themselves and scored a few stunning tries.
Garsie Bere flexing their power again, cannot wait for their clash against Monument.
I’m sad I missed the Monnas v Helpies match, heard it was a great game (as usual).
KES showed bottle, commitment and skill v Affies. Their inside centre was impressive.
Bishops surprised us with a lekker running rugby win, I’m very happy for them. Durbanville at one point looked like they would run away with it. Bethlehem Voortrekker showed again that local derbies are so unpredictable.

@Sisyphus1866 (Comment #58) They beat PRG fair and square, no need to try drag them down. Next year your team can rectify the situation but 2026 goes down as victories for the Jade Brigade over Paul Roos and Rondebosch, as well as the other giants, Gim and Grey. No-one can take that away from them.

Jeppe have had the better of NW of a number of years now and even with tge travel factor Jeppe know they have the edge I feel. They have come off a tough few games but my worry for NW is playing after Old Boys Day. The guys are always a bit kak after such a big weekend. Hope I am wrong, we will see.

@wanza_15 (Comment #54) I’m not so sure I agree with you regarding Jeppe. You guys had one hell of a schedule this year and I actually think it made you a better team despite some high scores against you and I therefore predict that you are going to beat Northwood by +7. As for KES, no matter how strong a team Affies has, they always seem to struggle at Reds, Collard and Golstone fields…so I don’t predict a big score at all.

@Kaya 85 (Comment #45) The boys are en-route and should arrive at Northwood in an hour or so. Hope they win really, I have nothing else to say. They leave me speechless, in a bad way lol. It’s gonna be real tough against Northwood who take this fixture against us serious. Heart speaking and not my head: Northwood 20-23 Jeppe
I agree that St Johns may be a potential banana peel for Pretoria Boys, that result will be interesting but travelling to Pretoria, it may be 7 points too far for St Johns unfortunately.
    Pretoria Boys 21-14 St Johns
KES will do well to score 2 tries against Affies, I bet I am going to see 2 or 3 new names on the KES teamsheet, I never know who is going to start for them/who is healthy or not. Could be a real baptism of fire for The Reds in Houghton.

@Mate (Comment #39) I watched the Jeppe match VS HJS at Noord Suid and Jeppe started both halves like a house on fire. I thought after the first 10 minutes that Jeppe would deliver the season so much expected by their supporters, especially after their Garsfontein result. But alas…

We tend to love a fixture against Northwood even when perhaps they’re more favoured on paper. In general, against KZN schools, there is visibly more belief and we play with a lot more confidence; maybe as Beet alludes to, slightly more forgiving than our Afrikaans counterparts?
This Northwood side looks great though, probably the best I’ve seen. At Home, given both respective sides’ form across the season, Northwood are favourites. But I absolutely have hope, its a game we have it in us to win.
Not sure how our prop Hamman (perhaps our best player) is doing, having limped off against Monnas. Big blow if he’s out.

Well Jeppe had a decent second half against Monnas after they were blown off the park in the first half, so that was encouraging. Jeppe does tend to look good going forward. They just are not bossy enough when defending.
So after a hectic couple of weeks against Witbulle, I think although the Knights will be very intense in the approach, for Jeppe they will appreciate playing against less X-factor firepower out wide. NW like to grind out wins so still back them to win but Jeppe should be in the game more this weekend.

Ontspan, Affies was ‘n massiewe toets, Garsfontein ook.

@OomPB (Comment #10) Ek wonder nou net.

I know we often refer to these games between the top schools as Test matches, but I think PRG-HJS is going to have even more of that character than most. I don’t think we’ll see an expansive affair: HJS looked much better with the tactical approach they took against Stellenberg than with the more expansive approach they adopted against Affies (and to a lesser extent Grey) and PRG generally relies on their defence as well, in addition to a strong kicking game. The big concern for HJS, I feel, will be the fact that their scrum was properly creaking against Stellenberg. I think PRG may be targetting that. HJS’ locks, however, were immense: the first team this season that could neutralise Juvan Burden – no mean feat at all. The loose trios are quite evenly matched, with HJS perhaps edging it on pace and PRG edging it on the ground. The battle of the 10s will be interesting too: Meissenheimer for HJS kicks really well from hand and from the tee, so Pheiffer will also need to be up to the challenge. It’s not clear whether Basson will start on Saturday, but, in any event, both teams are relatively limited in their backlines (see how PRG was exposed vs Garsfontein and HJS exposed vs Affies). This is going to be a really, really tight old affair!

Hoe lank gaan Stellenberg nog super A liga speel?

@Wonder (Comment #8) Jong Matie het my beinvloed. Wat is tog so arrogant?

@Janneman04 (Comment #4) The crazy thing is that there are WP trials today even though all of the schools are playing big games back-to-back. It’s actually just borderline irresponsible to put kids through that. Imagine having Springbok trials on the Tuesday between URC games…

This opens up the Western Province Craven Week selections again with Pfeiffer back. Behardien also back playing for Wynberg and van Biljon in the mix as well. Thomas Saunders on fullback also in the running which will make it difficult to choose the three above mentioned flyhalves. Danté Davids has also been impressive at 15 for Boys High. Will also be interesting to see whether they will be able to fit in both Barker and Basson…not too familiar with the Southern Suburbs centres…

Travis played the second half vs Rondebosch, so he’s fit and firing. Not 100% sure whether Tiaan Basson will play this weekend, but he should be pretty close to being ready.
