Unsavoury incident after a 1st XV match at the Graeme Festival

Video footage of an unpleasant incident at the conclusion of a first team match at the popular Graeme Festival 2024 has gone viral.

A player from one team is seen headbutting an opponent.

Shortly afterwards an adult approaches the aggressor and gives him a PK (a very hard slap).

Two incidents of unacceptable behaviour.

The question is: what punishment should be meted out to the two individuals concerned?

I believe the player was suspended for a match and received school punishment (gating etc). Not sure if anything happened to the parent/supporter, haven’t heard any update….

Has there been any statement or follow up on this incident? I know that after the incident at Kearsney last year – KZNRU and both high schools put out very strongly worded replies and the father in question received a ban and it was conducted as a formal disciplinary with consequences. Similarly with the incident in the GWRU school match last year too. Would be good to know that a strong line was taken here too.

Watching the video on social media made me sick. This is not SBR! Both teams and schools must be blamed.

Sad to see this at the end of the game. I experienced some bad behavior from Marlow parents last year at the Kearsney Easter Festival. Chirping the ref, Chirping the boys, and even chirping the spectators. It was so bad that a group of us had to move away from the parents.

I also think there must have been loads of chirps between players on the field. Marlow should never be losing to Kingswood and both schools know it.

    I'LL DISCIPLINE AT SCHOOLS SPORTSDAYS

Any school with self respect and integrity would quickly step up and sort out any issues. This is, in my opinion, best done but the school taking a hard stance internally against pupils, parents and any spectators!

Where such thing doesn’t happen and issues is not a ‘once off’ or done by one individual other schools can simply choose not to play them until discipline is back!

It’s damaging to everyone who loves the sport and keep in mind that over the last few years a few of such videos has made their way outside S.A. it does longterm damage on many levels!

Marlow not innocent too, not the first time Marlow spectators assault players, Marlow parents and boys have used the k word in the past when playing QC hence the derby is no longer played

Oh so now it is only KC with the discipline problem as you say? If you watched the whole match it was not only KC. There were plenty incidences from both sides mate! I started my post by saying “I do not condone it” but to only site KC with a discipline problem is very short sighted!

    SORRY NOT SURPRISED

Disgusting behavior from the Marlow spectator. Didn’t the samething happen a few years ago, with a Marlow spectator assualting a QC player?

Marlow usually are very well behaved…Not like them to react like this at all.
Especially because there will be consequences for them if I know that school like I think I do

“Kingswood’s behaviour on the pitch the last couple of years has been totally unacceptable and there has been, and will be no consequences for it. Showboating, taunting opponents and now all out brawls are par for the course”

Copy and paste from X and I agree with the sentiments, I saw this coming !

As someone who was a dog handler for a long time I always ask the following question when I hear of a dog biting someone….what did that person do to cause the dog to bite ?
The same aplies here what did the KC boy do to be treated like this ,it would seem to me he was the cause of the problem rather than the victim….once is an incident, twice is a patern ….see post nr 1 by Ruggafreak….it would seem that KC do have a serious discipline problem.

    INCIDENT

The video talked about – where can one find this? We are experiencing the same type of BS in Namibia with School Sport – currently writing something for the local paper.

I do not condone any such behaviour in school boy rugby, however, throughout the years testosterone and adrenaline runs high, therefore skirmishes and tustles will emerge, no doubt. Through out this match there were niggles between the players but at the end wistle, and if you analyse the video properly even in slow motion you can see that Marlow boys on two occasions had their hands around said KC boys throat which prompted the head butt (no excuse its wrong) and he was dragged twice by the kneck, once by Marlowe player and then by Marlowe parent/adult. It is dispicable how the Marlowe parents/adults ran on to the pitch to drag the KC boy by the neck and to slap him!Not the start of the season that either Marlowe or KC would want but I hope proper discipline if given to the boys should be carried through to the parents/adults!

I hear allegations of violence after the Dale vs Nico Malan u15s game too at this same festival. Allegedly Nico parent elbowed a Dale player after Dale scored match winning try in the last minute which resulted in a huge brawl. Disgusting man !

Last year I didn’t enjoy the behavior of the KC boys,I remember an incident when a QC player got hit off the ball a KC cheerleader got into the QC players face and pushed him which was disgusting to witness. KC boys have a tendency of getting into opponents faces by screaming at them and pushing them around so I definitely saw this coming, they play with too much passion which is something that coaching staff must address. Marlow parent that got involved is also disgusting and must be charged. Both schools must hang their head in shame. Disgraceful.
