Mr Price Sport backs the KZN u18 team

Mr Price Sport, well-known in schoolboy rugby circles throughout the country for their generous kit support, are continuing  the existing partnership with the Kwazulu-Natal under 18 Craven Week team. During a handover ceremony held at Glenwood High School, the 22 Craven Week players received Maxed branded technical kit along with their official jerseys from their sponsor.

The team recently defeated Border 62-3 in East London and will meet Free State schools on the opening day of Craven Week this year.

Yes their U15s don’t have any (which surprises me) but their other A sides have the most! The current U15 age group had most of its KZN U13s go to Glenwood! Westville. Don’t have any either but them and Glenwood I think are the best in identifying not KZN talent

@HORSEFLY NO.1: Not so sure about that – how many KZN players in their current U15’s ?
The fact that the selections are not always spot on, means there are many “good value” players out there for smart recruiters – the ones who can identify future potential as opposed to current size / ability. I think Westville are the leaders in that field in the past couple of years.

its mostly Kearsney who get most KZN players. some, like the Glenwood Prep ones, go to certain schools because they took them out of rural areas and put them into good primary schools and that is the case with all 4 Glenwood Prep boys in the u13 KZN squad who will then all go to Glenwood

@Beet, I think you may be right. Any chance of doing a small bio for each player in the 22. School, height, weight, age, highest previous representation etc. Only if it’s not too hard to get…

@All Black: I certainly hope they powers that be accept the problem is a huge one and implement some sort of age verification other than freely available birth certificates.
This was a big problem in age group cricket in Asia and the government stepped in and implemented an age verification protocol – might be something to consider here.

Wait until the pressure comes on the age groups that have not been tested. U14 and U15 boys. There are a few concerned parents making themselves heard about boys they believe have got through the net. The schools will be under pressure to test everybody and if there is still doubt then medical means can be used. This problem is far from over.

@Gawie, I see about 2 games a year if I can until I come back to SA later this year. I think Glenwood was sponsored by Mr Price before Puma. Glenwood did not import anyone, they thought they were assisting under privledged boys with an education and sporting opportunities, but were lied to blatantly by the boys, their parents and their agents via forged documents. What gets me is how did these ‘boys’ get through both the KZN schools selection and SA Schools/Sevens selection checks? Tom’s name should be stripped from all Glenwood honours boards and records. We do not and never will support anything underhanded or illegal..

@Grasshopper, I thought Glenwood was also sponsored by Mr Price. You seem to know a lot about them. Do you get to see many games?

I think you get a mulligan if you import over-aged E. Cape players. It’s like Bismarck, you moer the oke and then you say “Sorry sorry”. See it all goes away and it’s back to the business at hand.

@Ludz, are you 100% sure that ALL EP and Border schools are 100% clean? The few boys caught in KZN were from that area originally…

Is Puma still their sponsor? I heard that it had been withdrawn but you would be better placed than me to comment. What is the position?

Great stuff, good to see a big SA Clothing and sports brand backing our players. I know Glenwood is sponsored by Puma, so some big brands coming to the party. Would be good to get a pick of the boys in the KZN No1’s, if they still get blazers etc.
