Varsity Cup Young Guns: UCT Trojans squad

The UCT Trojans squad definitely gives the impressive they are students that can play rugby as opposed to the Maties and Tukkies who seem to be rugby players that know how to study. A restrictive junior rugby budget and strict admission requirements means that of all the under-20 Varsity sides, the UCT probably most closely reflects the old school fully amateur student rugby team.

Dont have all the heights and weights of the other squads but they seem quite a small squad. Tallest lock is 1,93m. Doesnt make a difference if you play as a team though.

Great to see Xolile Kasana back in shape and in the squad. Nicknamed “Lelo” he played WP u/13 cricket with my son and against him at high school level. In 2008 at u/15 level Lelo broke his leg and injured his knee in a horrific collision while playing centre in a match against Boishaai. That injury resulted in him not playing rugby or cricket for the rest of his highschool career. Whenever we played SACS, Lelo was there next to the field as a linesman for the u/16’s, Seccies and finally the 1st team in 2011. I always had a nice chat with the young man and I bumped into him at SACS last year again where he told me he is fully re-habilitated and is aiming for a spot in the UCT Young Guns squad for 2013. I am So pleased to see he made it!..Well done young man and it could not happen to a nicer guy!

Trust a scrumhalf to do BSc (Prop studies) Do they do the whole anatomy or just the “brain”? And where can we gain access to the results of these studies?
