DRSU Youth Club teams final set of matches

It’s not over yet for the DRSU Youth Club Teams as they prepare for a final set of matches this week. The U13 outfit who won bronze at the IPT will face Pirates on Thursday evening whist the main fixtures will takeplace on Saturday where all DRSU teams will take on the Bulls. In addition, an invitational DRSU team in each age group will face Pretoria Harlequins.   All matches will be played at the Varsity College venue – Riverside Sports Complex in Durban North. This will bring to an end the Youth Club Rugby season for 2012. The full set of fixtures is as follows:

U13 invitational score is also wrong. I think it was 5-41. U14 scores mixed up?

Result of tonight’s U13 match between DRSU and Pirates Rugby Club (Jhb)

    DRSU 74 Pirates 0

Although very one sided, it was great to see the DRSU backline throw the ball around and put together some really slick moves. The perfect confidence booster for their match against the Bulls on Saturday.

@ Horsy- I see in the paper that young Ross has started a Six or Nix campaign where old cricket equipment is collected and reconditioned to then be donated to less fortunate children. Was this his own initiative? If so pretty impressive.

KES apparently had a pretty bad 1st term, losing to schools they should have never have lost to. They are in red hot form now but their ranking is OK if you think about the 1st term which you have to.

With regards to the rankings, KES are far too low. They smashed both DHS and Glenwood at Michaelmas and have two of the best players in the country in Pillay and Valli. Glenwood had a very bad day at the office against them but to lose by 10 wickets means KES are pretty hot.

@ Horsy- I think it was you who said that KES seem to avoid the major players when they claim KZN domination. They have avoided GW when they were No 1 in rugby and now claim domination at the Michaelmas week thus avoiding the No 1 KZN team at cricket. Are they just a bunch of sneaky b…?

Yeah i agree but some of the U14 players aare just special talents and thus deserve it.
As for the WBHS and DHS boys , hard luck, i know a couple of boys who put rugby in the back seat to focus on kzn selection for cricket who will be very disappointed!

IMHO Westville has been no.1 in SA and having only 3 boys for KZN U19 was surprising but im not complaining with 4!!

COME NOW- WE ARE DISCUSSING RUGBY. OUR TEAMS ARE GOING TO HAVE SOME CHANGES GOOD AND BAD BUT IT IS GOING TO BE A GREAT DAY FOR ALL INVOLVED. JAMES HAS MISSED THE LAST 2 FIXTURES AGAINST THE BULLS BECAUSE OF SCHOOL CRICKET. NOT THIS TIME AS HIS MATCH FALLS IN THE MORNING. WHAT A LUCK. LET OUR BOYS REVERSE THE RESULTS OF LAST WEEK,EXCEPT THE U16’S AND SHOW THE BLUE FELLOWS FROM UP COUNTRY THAT WE ARE MADE OF STERN STUFF- JUST A SHORT NOTE -WELL DONE CRAIG ON TRIST’S SELECTION. NOT EASY WHEN THERE ARE THE QUOTA SYSTEMS IN PLACE. GO KEARSNEY!

Well done Westville on having a great period of play.I must apologise to another blogger who attacked me for saying I thought that Westville were the No 1 side in KZN. I was wrong. They are also the No 1 side in the country.Of course these ranking can be the subject of huge debate based on the strength of the opposition but give a side credit when it is due because these positions do not last long.
@ Horsy- Yes it is very strange that DHS and WBHS U15 had only 2 boys in the mix.But remember that while a certain amount of horse trading goes on the boys do not pick themselves. I just have a problem when U14 and school B team players making the team as their stats are not comparable to boys who have played at a much higher level. Also these selection tournaments can produce very mixed signals in terms of performance. There is a big difference between a boy facing the new ball against the best bowlers on a big field to a boy facing an old ball by below average bowlers on a small field. I think one boy got 5 sixs in an over. I would presume he would be an example of the later.I would also like to say there is a son of a well known blogger who really stood up at these trials and has had match winning performances for his school over a period of time . He certainly is a worthy selection and so well done.

@GreenBlooded: I stand to be corrected, but as far as I know the quota requirement is 6 players of colour.

It seems a bit unfair (to the quota players) as the players of colour that I recognise could certainly make the teams on merit.

Theyve been chosen but not announced. Only know a bit about the coastal side though. For U19, there are are 13 players, 4x DHS, 3x WBHS,3x Kearsney whilst i dont know where the other 3 are from.
Still cant understand why none of our U15s were chosen though! They are a pretty good side. But hey, theyll get their chance next time.those who deserve will eventually make it though.

Just want to say well done to all boys whove been selected for KZN cricket teams. I know DHS has 4x KZN U19 boys, 3x KZN U17 and 1x KZN U15(which i dont understand as our team is one of the best in the province!)
Of the boys who made U19 , one is a grade 11 U16 kid whos been chosen as vc of the team! Good stuff kid!

@Rugger fan: As noted by Pedantic – many of these boys will have school committments on Saturday. Dixon for example will most likely be in a cricket match for Kearsney and school fixtures should take precedence. Just hope the teams are not weakened too much.

Interesting – The DRSU Invitation teams – are those for the guys that did not make the DRSU tournament for whatever reason?

So guys like Dixon etc. should get a showing? Should be an interesting days rugby.

Please keep us in the loop on the scores – including the Thursday match against Pirates
