It’s all going South for Noord so far in 2015

Final count: 19 – 5 to Suid with 2 draws

The start of the 2015 schoolboy rugby season has been marked by an increase in the number of matches between the established rugby schools of Noordvaal (“Noord”) and the Western Cape (“Suid”). Some of the most highly anticipated clashes of the season take place during this 30-day period.

Although there was quite a bit of preseason hype surrounding a few Noordvaal teams, it’s the Cape teams that have stolen the headlines so far.

The “Noord” have only recorded stand alone win and a draw in significant matches to date. Tuks-reeks contestants Klerksdorp, although not generally known as a big gun caused one of the upsets of the season by beating Drostdy 10-7 and in very wet conditions hosts KES did even better to hold an impressive Rondebosch to a 10-all draw. Otherwise it’s been “Suid” all the way.

When talking upsets, the one that stands out most has to be SACS’s 13-10 win against a good Affies team.

Under the current circumstances, the “Noord” will do very well to get a few more wins under the belt.

@beet: If you do decide to have a Noord – Oos compo, I propose calling it the TengKwa trophy. The name being derived from the last 4 letters in Gauteng and the first 3 letters inKwazulu. This need not replace the Grogper cup but would at least give give the Noordvaal guys something to smile about

@kosie: Nooooo! Not the Noordvaal co-eds in a Boys School only competition.

But it is perhaps time to include them as the Grogper Cup does seem a little one sided at the moment and proving Grasshopper’s argument from a few years back that the KZN schools are better than the GEMS, which game rise to the measurement.

Generally the top Noordvaal Afrikaans school don’t regard beating KZN schools as that high up on the achievement bar but perhaps as part of a larger compo might change the significance of this.

Beet let’s have a Noord – Oos (KZN) list. It might make better reading for the Noordvaal guys although the Grogper cup at this stage is also heavily stacked in KZN favour.

In other words, what I am saying is, if the current rules don’t suit you, change the rules!
