12 November, 2014 beet 1

This annual prosperity would not been possible if it were not for the close working relationship that the union has with the North-West University or Pukke as they are so often called.…

IRB clarifies laws regarding “crocodile rolls” & other aspects

4 November, 2014 beet 4

Initiated by Greenblooded

During the course of the year the IRB is called on to clarify grey areas of the law book. Below are a few of the interesting issues that have arisen in 2014.

Here’s a short Youtube video of the technique: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yzge8Hs1TN8.

KZN schoolboy rugby players that became Springboks

29 October, 2014 beet 148

KwaZulu-Natal is very passionate about schoolboy rugby. For decades school rugby in the region has been well organised, had good infrastructure and enjoyed a very strong support base. Many, many good rugby players have been produced by a number of schools in the province. However very few of these talented players have gone on to play for the Springboks. The truth is that as much as KZN loves their rugby and as big a part as the region plays in the overall well-being of the sport in this country, the province’s schools only account for just over 6% of the players that have represented South Africa on the international stage.…

29 October, 2014 beet 40

Sharks CEO John Smit has changed a number of things during his first year in charge at Kings Park but one that looks likely to stay the same is the union’s approach to contracting junior players.  Only 12 junior contracts for 2015 have been awarded. 11 to schoolboys with the other going to current Sharks under-19 starter Chris Lines who is still under-18 this year. …

Michaelhouse well represented in Currie Cup Final 2014

24 October, 2014 beet 7

The analysis below was forwarded to blogger Steve. It’s of the schools of origin of the players in Saturdays Currie Cup final per SARFU’s data. As always it makes for interesting reading in terms of some of the “smaller” rugby schools contribution to SA rugby and certainly from a Michaelhouse perspective 5 players is a first (there were 4 in the 2011 final at Ellis Park which was unprecedented at the time). 24 out of 44!…
