Muir College hosts Traditional Schools Headmasters’ Annual Conference 2014

Muir College in Uitenhage near Port Elizabeth is hosting this year’s Traditional Schools Headmaster’s Annual Conference. 23 headmasters are attending. The conference started on Wednesday, 27 August 2014.

As if you haven’t heard enough of it on this blog, the agenda for Friday’s session is the poaching of school sports players by other schools and this has being put forward by Sammy Gunn of Selborne.

Some of the issues that Sammy Gunn will be addressing are:

1. Finalising the School Sports Charter for schools which was tabled at last year’s meeting (http://blog.schoolboyrugby.co.za/?p=6905)
2. Agreeing on what sanction should be given to schools not adhering to the charter.
3. Raising concerns of what provincial rugby agents were up to.
4. Determining the acceptable cutoff age for players to transfer from one high school to another (under abnormal circumstances).
5. Stimulating discussion surrounding private schools bursaries given to boys.
6. Determining what controls could be put in place at rugby weeks and tournaments such as Easter rugby festivals.

Prior to the conference Mr Gunn was very vocal on the issue of boys and parents being misled by agents and how certain schools agree in principle to act in appropriate manner with regards to recruitment but do not back that up by putting their words into practice.

Hopefully I’ll be able to keep you posted on the discussions and outcomes.

@Playa: This should be a interesting setup I hope somebody supplied boxing gloves. As far as I know Queenian is involved in this conference some how he lives in Uitenhage maybe I will give him a call.

@Gungets Tuft: Ye I think old Lovatt likes giving out klapper I am sure that was the reason for the sudden departure from Queens.

@GreenBlooded: Look out for the Heads from KES, Jeppe, PBHS, Northwood, College – they will be the ones with frostbite from the Ice Bucket challenge that ou David Lovatt set for them. Kershaw will be the one with the neck brace after Ducasse klapped him with a whole iceberg, left out the water

@Roger: TH is definitely not safe. Sammy Gunn expressed publicly of his disgust after the Hudson boys ‘scandal’. No doubt that this will be brought up on behalf of HP by those present.

A podcast of this conference would be so sweeeeet!

@Playa: I’m sure there are a few pubs around Uitenhage? Go and hang out in a few of them around lunchtime – you might see a few headmasters sitting alone at the bar with a few doubles lined up………..

Friday could be quite an uncomfortable session then .

@Beet : did you see the article in yesterday’s Mercury regarding the Hilton/ GW saga – quite scathing and accompanied by a letter from a headmaster of a school in his private capacity…….

Still not the last we’ll hear of this one.
