Users experienced difficulties with the SuperSport Schools website access to the app which prompts the question, why not use the reliable user-friendly YouTube platform like in the old days of Schools Sports Live?

KES festival coverage is barely working. Wow!
The feed from the KES festival is shocking ! Trying to watch Bishops vs Dale and it’s a joke.

I just went to the playstore to read the reveiws….DSTV does not even bother replying on it and its 99% bad reviews…just shows jou how much they care about their product
@Pamos (Comment #24)
Like showmax and dstv now its just plain crap….SSL was 100X better, I think dstv basically just took over the existing digitv website, their infrastructure,and half assed an app togeteher, and did absolutely NOTHING to fix the the existing capacity problems that has plagued digitv for years…..then they said look everybody we now control schoolboy rugby its free but its crappy….fok man Burgersdorp highschool with 300 kids in the Karoo streams 1080 seamlessly on youtube so do Marlow ….DSTV bought the SSL platform and completely flucked it up….just my 2cents for what its worth

Is the Pixellot system hardcapped at 720p? Because the quality looks extremely poor if played natively on my TV but it has upscaling so it improves it a little bit.

If this app is supposed to be the next biggest school sporting stream platform surely they need to have all of this sorted out before they say that they will be streaming the event? It has been an ongoing problem when streams stop and buffer then go back 5mins and then buffer at the same place. Even after the match if you want to rewatch it. Sometimes its 16min out of a 50min game.
@IemandOnbelangrik (Comment #22)
Yes, in 2019 and 2020 I worked briefly with the pixolot system, and on some occasions the school did not provide a password to use their WIFI so we had to provide our own.
But think of it like this. You at The Wanderers and on occasions you struggle to send a Whatsapp, same type of thing.
@Running_Rugby1861 (Comment #21)
I doubt the buffering is always an internet problem. Because Affies is on a dedicated 5Gbps symmetrical line from Bitco and have invested shy of 5 million into IT infrastructure in the school. It must also be a Pixellot problem.
I cant really comment because My School refuses to stream. but thats another story. But 80% of all matches on the app are run by Kids, hense why the quality is not the greatest at times
if you watch 216 oftern you notice only games with commentaries get shown on there.
Another thing and you saw it with the Paul Roos game yesterday. They have a system where they need to put in a start ans finish time (it can be over rided) for games and thats why when there are multiple stoppages the game time has a min or so left but the stream stops.
Also the freezing midgame is not the app but the WIFI situation at the match venue.
Noooooooooooo!
69th minute. Affies scrum 5m after a PRG in-goal mistake. Score 30-25 to Paul Roos. Craziest game you will ever watch. Is there another twist in the tale.
Then the stream freezes.
Maybe the biggest match of 2024 ends without being able to see the suspense filled last play.
As far as I know, their channel got hacked some time ago and they have not been able to gain control of the channel on YouTube. However, they can just register a new account imho.
Fortunately Noord-Suid is on channel 207!

100% – the search and saved school functionality is terrible.
Really not a user orientated app at all.
On top of it all SuperSport Schools decided to broadcast netball on channel 216. Nothing against netball, but they clearly don’t know their true market!
@Smallies (Comment #13)
Definitely!
The app streaming the Glenwood Rugby Festival is terrible. Most of these under 14s first game in High School and parents from far away can not watch. Very disappointing
@Jakkals (Comment #12)
My point exactly, schools should take control of their products….and lets face it it has premuim value,it could generate a whole different income stream for that school
@Snelvuur (Comment #7)
I am able to mirror / cast the game onto my smart tv from my phone.
But I agree with many sentiments below. SS are trying to control this whole new flourishing industry of school sport. It attracts way more viewers than Currie Cup and even some URC games. Would be great if schools can just train up their media students and stream all their activities on YouTube. Might even help them generate some income instead of SS taking all the money.
@Roger (Comment #10)
Yeah my only wish for that game was for the camera to be on a higher platform
I watched the KES Nordheuwel game on YouTube and besides the stoooopid commentator who kept referring to KES as Jeppe – it was pretty good coverage 😆
@TheGoose (Comment #8)
Man this is why we need a like button around here – for comments like this.
Pixellot has proven to be far from ideal for what SSS could potentially achieve.
I have the same feeling when using Showmax. I always wish it was more like Netflix.
I also wish I could use google to search for matches
The SuperSportSchools App is terrible. The usability, navigation, filtering, etc is makes it incredibly frustrating to find the school/sport you’re looking for. It almost seems like SuperSport has completely neglected the viewer/user experience.
I have no issue using the app rather than the website, but it is very frustrating that I cannot mirror my phone’s screen on my TV when using the app. It simply does not allow you to do so. That is an easy short-term fix SS Schools can make while the website is offline.
@Wonder (Comment #5)
Yeah it seems like you can use the Android or Apple app but not the website
The App is now working,but I still can’t access via the browser on my laptop.
@Email Received (Comment #3)how come I have been streaming youtube nonstop through all of this?
… the App has had no problems at all except the usual connectivity issues experienced in SA by loadshedding and now the undersea pipeline which is effecting all internet activity in SA.
These issues would have been no different were we streaming to You Tube
The website access was severely impacted by the internet issues currently being experienced in SA similar to many over the top products including mail etc
Wish they would use youtube
Because multichoice wants full control with the long term plan to fully monopolize and monotize schoolsport ….
