@lantic 7s u18 Provincial Tournament 2012

The annual @lantic under-18 7’s tournament for Provincial teams takes place on 04-05 October 2012 at Tukkies in Pretoria.

The Kwa-Zulu Natal Schools team looks good on paper. There is however no such thing as an easy path to the next round. KZN faces an extra tough battle if they want to emerge as winners from their pool where they are grouped with defending champs the Blue Bulls, Border and Boland. The Bulls team includes two SA Schools players as well as a host of Craven Week winning players including the lively Jaco Hayward, who was unfortunate not to have earned himself an SA Schools call-up. Jameel Warnick, the player of the Garsfontein leg of @Lantic 7’s schools tournament is also in the Bulls mix. Border will have SA Schools scrumhalf Akhona Sihunu as well as a couple of his need for speed schoolmates from Dale College. KZN will also have to be wary of another top rated talent in JP Smith of Queens, who was prevented from attending Craven Week by the Border Rugby Union. On the Boland team, a name of interest has to be that of Duncan Matthews. The very talented youngster is in the process of working his way back to top form now that he has fully recovered from a serious knee injury.

The good news is that the Day 2 games will be televised live on SuperSport 6 starting on Friday 05 October starting at 13h55, so viewers should be able to see the following matches amongst others:

14h40: Shield final
15h00: Bowl final
15h20: Plate final
15h40: 3/4th play-offs
16h00: Cup final

    @ Horsy- It is a travesty that Westville will not be playing GW.A great experience lost.
    With regard to the televised matches only the semis and the shield/plate/cup finals are going to be shown. You know what they say about too much of a good thing.And I should know (or so my wife keeps telling me).

    Yeah OK. Is the whole tourno starting tomorrow with only the semis and finals televised or were the group stages played today?
    Also, i see Westville will have a good U14 side next year with at least 6 KZN players! I think that will be second only ro Glenwood. Pity they wont play next year :cry:

    @ Horsy- I will do a bit of homework on J.Smit.
    It must be remembered that when the DHS dream rugby team was voted for the captain’s grandfather lost narrowly to Aitken for the no 8 position. Tradition is never lost as by implication it is in the book.We do however need to understand its value and make sure that our future decisions never lose sight of that fact.

    @ Horsy- You must also watch the captain who is the great,great grandson of probably the first Dux of DHS( I have his prize a book for Mathematics and Classics- 1879). He was also the first signatory on the founding document of the Old Boys Association.

    Will be watching to see how former DHS boy Brad Ellse(Westville did it again -sigh…) Does here. It seems he has improved alot since U16 level last year.
    Well done to WBHS for using him properly though. DHS obviously couldnt do it as he played B team when he was there.
