Grey Bloem hope to end their 3 game losing streak

It’s almost never that one gets to use the terms Grey College and losing streak in the same sentence. SA’s most successful rugby school has lost three in a row but will be hoping to get their injury hampered season back on course with a win in East London. This is easier said than done. Selborne has a formidable side who have also been underachieving to an extent due to the injury enforced absence of their leaders Grant Venter (2) and Morgan Steyn (10).

SELBORNE GREY COLLEGE
1 Leon Lyons 1 Stef Brits
2 Mila Bomela / Cole van Tonder 2 Daniel Rust
3 Daniel Voigt 3 Gideo Beukes
4 Phumzile Maqondwana 4 George Rossouw
5 Daniel Froneman 5 Janco van Tonder
6 Heinrich Nieuwenhuizen 6 David Theron
7 Lutho Selem 7 Dian Schoonees
8 Darren Lemmer 8 Hardus Nel
9 Joshua Alderman 9 Rewan Kruger
10 Andile Koyana 10 Edward Janse van Vuuren
11 Thakga Boloko 11 Johan van der Walt
12 David Brits 12 PR Serfontein
13 Tristian Coetzer 13 Francois Agenbach
14 James Bruce 14 Marnus Boshoff
15 Michael Botha 15 Niel Durow

To put the result in perspective, in the last 20 and a bit seasons dating back to 1995, only 14 different South African schools have managed to get a win or draw against Grey College. Over that same period, Grey has had 9 unbeaten seasons.

@Playa: Thanks for the grammar lesson. Where I come from, English is not a second language, but a foreign one. Thankfully, my late mother and wife, uses the same vernacular.

@BOG: Some would say 45 points is a big score (45-29 vs Paarl Gim in 2012)…albeit the points difference being only 16 points, which I think is what you meant.

Looks like Selborne have a very good formula going in their junior teams. Scary for us
I heard only good things about this game.Great comeback by the 1sts to pile on some points when people probably thought it was becoming a one-sided affair.I guess GCB were due a win, and Selborne just happened to be the ones to face them on the day.

My vraag is..wat probeer jy nou eintlik sê?

@AffiePa: By your definition, “recent times”, becomes relative. For the 7-yr old, 2005, is also not “recent”. We cannot be selective, so we take it from when there has been yearly fixtures, which is the 70s.

Baie geluk aan Grey, ek het geweet julle het nie ‘n af jaar nie. Net ‘n paar harde klippe gehad om te kou langs die pad. Sterkte met die res van die seisoen.

@BOG: I do concentrate – I was talking about ‘recent times’ – read my mail (and no, 1970 is not recent times) Congratulations on your win against Selborne – I knew the Grey Boys will rise again.

51-21 FT. I guess that a few people who went there, in anticipation of a 4th successive loss, must be disappointed. But well done- it required a great deal of courage, hard work and determination. Also to the Selborne boys. I believe that they showed a great deal of sportsmanship when they stood up when the injured GCB player was taken off the field. Thats how I know them.

@AffiePa: Concentrate. These stats are from 1995. Overall, Monnas does have the best record and almost equal to them, is Queens College. If the stats go back to the 70s, your stats become less impressive.
What strikes me about this list, is than even in GCBs struggle years, there was never really a big score against them

Thanks @beet – amazing stats. Interesting to note that Affies appears 8 times on the list (if you add the 1998 draw), the next best school seems to be Boishaai at 5 followed by Paul Roos at 4. Not sure where BOG gets his stats that Monnas has the best record against GCB in recent times – they only in at 3.
