Megapro Marketing continues to give SBR fans exactly what they’ve been begging for ever since budget cutbacks took effect a few years back: more TV coverage of their favourite school rugby teams. The sports marketing company’s introduction of the Premier Interschools this year has been a huge and most welcomed success, featuring some of the best known schools taking each other on in high profile derbies.
It doesn’t come much bigger than this game. The term “powerhouse” is an exclusive one, reserved for a select few when it comes to SBR in South Africa. Paul Roos Gym and Paarl Boys High (Boishaai) define the term powerhouse school really.
In any given season, the Western Cape is blessed with healthy competition and a surplus of talent. This year is no different. Both schools, along with several other Western Cape contenders, are well placed in the national rankings and contain names in their respective starting line-ups that are bound to go on and appear on provincial junior rugby, possibly even senior rugby and maybe even international team-sheets in the years to come. That just gives an idea of the quality of rugby to expect.
Boishaai find themselves pretty much where most pundits expected them to be at the start of the season, i.o.w. at the top along with their great rivals Gimmies and Affies. Paul Roos have been on a bit of a see-saw ride this season in terms of consistency. They are however capable of disposing of the very best on their day, just like they did against Affies at Wildeklawer. So favourites have to be Boishaai but they will under no illusion about the real and present danger of Paul Roos.
The beautiful Markotter Facility in Stellenbosch, home to the Paul Roos Maroon Machines will host this event.
Kickoff is at 2:30pm on 16 June 2012 with TV coverage starting at 2:15pm on Supersport 1
Allo Allo…I can smell the deapheat!
