There is no financial assistance from the Union thats a load of rubbish!! The school foots the bill. Have a look at how many personal the sharks teams take on tours u15 u16 u17 u18. Thats where that money goes to. These Craven weeks cost close to R7500 per person.

Glenwood vs Hilton on their home turf with no build-up and tradition in probably a watered down 25 mins a half thing is a damp squib. It takes away from the derby and tradition, hate this….in I think the 103rd game between the schools since 1915…..way before many of the other ‘derbies’

    Hi Beet,

Hope you are well and enjoying the rollercoaster 2026 season!

I was sent this. Just for clarity that you might like to share with your followers; I have been well-informed that the entrance fee has been instituted by the Sharks, it is a fundraising event for them. It actually goes towards assisting boys who can’t afford to go on provincial tours.

Hilton College aren’t making any money off it, in fact it costs them money to host it but they are happy to do so to support the union.

    Cheers,

Who really benefit from this day?

Team selections seems pre determined. Players has been followed for years and all games are available to watch.

I dont like this format as it takes away what normally would have been a fantastic day between the schools.

Is there a cost involved for the school that can host this day? And who would the money go too?

Meanwhile all other games from B to E sides carry on but with no pinnacle game at the end of the day

Very sad that DHS v College has been watered down to a game on Gilfillan – what was once a home and away derby is now just another regular fixture.

    SHARKS DAY COSTS

For those who are not aware, there is a cost to attend the Sharks Day this Saturday. Yes, you read right. To go and watch your son play for Westville against Northwood at 12.30, or for any other team not associated with Hilton, you will be charged R50 per adult and R20 per child, with scholars in uniform getting entry for free. Ridiculous if you ask me!

It is surprising that Westville is playing NW again. Surely GW would be the logical move swapping with Hilton. I don’t think Westville’s junior A teams have been beaten locally which sets up a great showdown on DHS OB day.

I personally like this idea. It gives the selectors the chance to watch every boy. Who knows – maybe a kid from a less fancied team really puts his hand up and gets selected. I’m sure they are 90% certain of their final teams but this is a last chance to get it right. I know it’s not great for the boys to not have their usual crowd/fans there…..but it’s also a lesson for rugby after school- not much glory. Way better idea than the weeks and
Weeks of trials that we have in Gauteng to eventually choose a team made up of Monument, Helpmekaar, Noordheuwel, Jeppe and KES players.

I agree with you… this is such a tick box exercise. Gotta cater for the tier two team.. But reality the side is pretty much picked… After all the sharks claim to be tracking boys from 15 so whats the point… My opinion the selection panel should be meeting once a week to discuss the players and to rank them and when it comes down to selection week you pick the players already ranked.

Iv never been a fan of Sharks Day. to me it is totally pointless. At least when it was at Kings Park it was something nice for the boys to look forward to as many of them would never get the opportunity to play at the Stadium. But can anyone explain the purpose of it at all??? After Hilton V Michealhouse, DHS v College is the most historically significant derby in KZN, and to have it on a neutral ground without a traditional fixture happening on the day is terrible. just my opinion, but the participating schools should pull out of this Day.
