Just as Durbanville celebrated a milestone by securing promotion to the Western Province Premier League for 2026, they were dealt a setback: their u19A head coach, Ivan Jooste, who played a pivotal role in their success, has resigned to focus on his true passion—counselling. He has plans to build his practice.
This career shift will take him just six kilometres south to Durbies’ traditional rivals, Stellenberg. While he is reportedly taking a break from coaching, should Stellies persuade him to lead one of their junior teams, it would be a major rugby coup.
For Durbies, the timing offers an opportunity to explore the market for a new head coach. They could even revive the Director of Rugby position, which they struggled to fill a few years ago—a role Ivan had partially shouldered in addition to his coaching duties.
Ivan Jooste will fit in well at Stellenberg…. great move !
