Squad announced
Paarl Boys’ High, South Africa’s number-one ranked rugby school in 2025, will begin their 2026 preparations with a December tour to the Eastern Cape. It will mark the Galpille’s first return to the province since the dramatic 2014 Die Burger Final in Cradock, where they fell 11–10 to Marlow.
Boishaai have lined up trial fixtures against Framesby and Grey High. With only two regular starters retained from this year’s champion team — scrumhalf Liam de Villiers and utility back Jeneal Davids — the tour will serve as both a trial platform and an important bonding exercise for the new-look squad. A European tour in December 2026 is also on the horizon as part of their longer-term development plans.
For Framesby, the December hit-out is a first, and there is clear excitement about testing themselves against a national powerhouse while enjoying the organisational benefits of summer rugby. Grey High, meanwhile, are no strangers to out-of-season schedule. Last year they featured in the inaugural NextGenXV Global Rugby Challenge at their brother school Grey College, and this December they will travel to Spain for the second edition of the tournament. The event, fast becoming a fixture on the schoolboy rugby calendar, already has a third staging in the pipeline for the end of 2026 at Grey’s Kolisi Field in Gqeberha.
Grey High will be joined in Spain by Grey College and Oakdale, the SWD outfit who were the third South African side at last year’s Bloemfontein festival.
Meanwhile, the pioneers of December rugby, Paul Roos, will once again head to Abu Dhabi for the World Schools Festival with their stayers squad during December 2025. While many will be hoping the young Stellenbosch powerhouse can capture the title this time around, head coach Corne Uys maintains that the priority remains building relationships and fostering team growth — values that have consistently underpinned their successful recent tours.
