They did split their squad for a couple of games but definitely a big ask.
For 2025, Nories are planning to do more high profile interschools matches and will leave the NWU Cup compo. The latter is a great compo tho so hopefully they find a good replacement school

The Wildeklawer organisers would LOVE to have Westville. I’m sure they send Ville an invite every year.
However Westville have committed to the Grey High Festival in the recent years and again in 2025. Grey’s festival bounces around between the 1st term end school holiday and the 27 April – 01 May Public Holidays. The latter dates clash with ABSA Wildeklawer.

For the record ABSA Wildeklawer will have ± 30 1st XV’s in 2025, so they are by no means restricting themselves to a Top 20. Northwood are expected to be amongst the new schools attending.

Worth noting, I am expected the Grey High Festival to have the best lineup of 1st XVs in a few years. It is going to be an epic festival. DHS, Hilton, Michaelhouse, Northwood will be joining Westville. 8))

25 matches for Noordheuwel – unbelievable! You need a deep squad of players for that many games.

Any chance you’re able to share the Wildeklawer fixtures for next year?

Hilton and Michaelhouse do benefit in my opinion. But in fairness the points difference is marginal, and Northwood could also feel hard done by since they beat Maritzburg.

Yeah College is a good example.
They agree to play Grey College and Paul Roos at ABSA Wildeklawer 2024. Most top rugby schools incl the Big Five do their very best to avoid two very difficult matches at these premier 2-day festivals.
College then loses each by a margin of more than 40 and comes away with 3 points ÷ 18 games = 0.17 contribution to their overall average ranking points after the revision.
For 2025 College are lined up to play Framesby (cat 4) and Diamantveld (cat 4) at ABSA Wildeklawer. So they stand a far better chance of collecting 8.0 points ÷ 18 games = 0.44 contribution to their overall ranking average points.
That extra 0.27 (0.44-0.17) added to their 2024 average points of 3.47 takes them up to 3.75 or possibly 11th place.

So one of the questions again is how does one equate losing by 40+ to GCB and PRG to beating a decent team like Framesby or Diamantveld, to find a satisfactory balance.

For 2024, if College had lost to GCB and PRG by a margin 20 points per game, they would have finished in 14th place ahead of Hilton, Westville and Michaelhouse.

I understand the complexities, but in KZN Maritzburg College beat Hilton, Michaelhouse and Westville, yet sits behind them in the rankings. The fact that MC are the only KZN school to consistently play the “bigger” out of province teams, and not the smaller private schools in KZN seems to count against them. I would suggest that there is a fault in your system that needs tweaking.

    It is different.
I would say the main difference is that for this ranking above, there are greater rewards for losing matches while being competitive.

I am starting to like this ranking as a summary of the season for a team – thanks @beet.
Waiting for the @Bloktrui combined rankings to make some comments on weighted performance vs ELO (points transfer) ranking approach.
