Bus burns: close call for KZN u18s

The KZN u18 players and coaching staff were fortunate to escape unharmed when their bus caught alight and eventually burnt to smithereens on the way back to Durban from East London earlier this week. Not so lucky was their new Mr Price Sport kit that was reduced to ashes.

Under the circumstances there is now an opportunity for those involved to look back and have a chuckle about it but it was a serious matter when it happened. Had it not been for a few alert people the consequences could have been fatal.

Everyone accepts that accidents do happen. Nevertheless there has to be concern over the state of the road transport industry in SA. Are companies concerned enough about the safety of passengers and other road users to invest the right amounts of time and money to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy and their drivers fit for the task at hand?

Hectic, glad everyone is OK. That is why in the UK they have an annual MOT to see if the vehicle is road worthy. It’s a free for all in SA when it comes to servicing and looking after cars..
