    Gaan warm rugby wees!!!!

  2. @Rooibul: Ek hoor jou. Ek het probeer om volgende jaar se skedule te bepaal so op my eie.

Sover speel ons 9 wedstryde waarvan slegs 3 tuis is. 6 April teen Waterkloof daar; 13 April teen julle daar. Dis vriendskaplike wedstryde.

  5. @beet: you seem to put the u14B team’s log up here, as opposed to the 1st teams in the cup and shield division?

  7. Ja, shame….the normal weekly.routine for all the Vossie teams is getting on the bus at 1 or 2 am , drive through the night 500 km ,and start playing…..for a normal league fixture.
Then the last few weeks all the U16’s and 1sr team players involved in provincial trials or games, think this Tuesday LimpopoBlue Bulls play against Leopards at Rustenburg…another 1000 km round trip in middle of week, last week against Valke etc etc

Add the Noord- Suid fest at Uitenhage (almost 3000 km) round trip , KES fest, Loftus day and various friendly’s against Gauteng schools….and I think they clock probably closer to 15 000 clicks per player in.season
No wonder our u14’s never win, they still fast asleep when play starts.

Not many schools whose league opponents is on average 450 km away.
Closest opponents this year about 300 km away , thanx to Nelspruits relegation….rest all between 400 and 1500km away.,

At least Cravenweek is at Grey this year, under a 1000 clicks away, one year it was almost a 4000 km round trip to Stellenbosch

I know Grey, Glenwood, Winelands schools, Affies etc also clocks many a mile….but I heard some of their teams fly!

The Wineland and KZN schools at least have plenty of local derbies, that cuts down on traveling .
I pity the poor parents who try to attend all the games :-D

Think round about @Tzavosky’s day when he had a son at school, they also toured Argentina…

Think in 2008 they won Beeld for Large schools, final against Helpies in Jhb
Can’t remember the schools in playoffs, but I knew they had to play 5 away games on trot to clinch title, Limpopo finals, then 1st playoff round, quarters and semifinals, final

Tzavosky should know the teams, but it would typically be Ermelo in Ermelo, Transvalia in Vanderbil, , maybe Klerksdorp or Potch Gim , and final against Helpies
1st team to ever won 4 knockouts away in row to clinch Beeld trophy, and the we’re all 1000 km round trips
More remarkable, the U14 and u15 team also made final…..u14 lost against Helpies, U15 won against Potch Volkies, Pietersburg won U16 against Roodepoort and obviously Bv first team won against Helpies

I was there , and if memory serves, I saw the bus pull up at Helpies about 5 minutes before U14 final began, due to traffic holdup, so poor u14s almost had to run straight on field from bus :-D
Anyway, kudos to the players and parents of BV…..and so many other rural schools , for loving the game so much, that all that travel doesn’t deter them.

Same with the big city schools that play derbies across the country, as long as they don’t fly

  8. @Vyfster: By the mid 00’s BV used to tour Argentina every other year. The boys loved it, but it was very expensive. I love Namibia and I kept wondering why they didn’t rather go there.

In 2008 my son was in Gr11 and was selected to go on tour, again to Arg. Of course, I intended to join the touring party, finances permitting. Coincidentally I bumped into the chairman of the rugby committee soon after the touring party was announced and I mentioned how much I looked forward to the tour. He mentioned to me that there were serious concerns about the cost involved.

It was exactly the gap I needed to suggest Namibia, which was agreed upon at a subsequent parents’ meeting. Initially some of the boys were rather upset about missing Argentina, but after pointing out to them that it was R8 000 vs R20 000 per boy, they excepted the change.

The Namibia tour turned out exactly like what I expected – the boys enjoyed every minute on and off the field – the opposition was decent and there were lots of things to enjoy off the field. Bonus was I could take my whole family with.

2008 Beeld, I seem to remember that they played the semifinal at home vs Standerton. It was meant to be played on the Saturday, but S/ton requested to play the Friday before. So the kick off was at 14:00 on a typical hot and humid Lowveld spring day, with S/ton wearing their black jerseys. That combination alone killed them, despite having had Gary van Aswegen at flyhalf.

Who will ever forget the try that Slang Sibanda scored just before halftime against Helpies in the final, it was a thing of beauty. Slang was by far the most talented rugby player that I’ve witnessed playing for BV, pity his career went off the tracks post school.

  10. @Valkie: Dis onaanvaarbaar wat besig is on daar te gebeur.Punt.

  11. @Grizzly: Ek is deur NHS eenkant toe geskuif oor my beterwetige opinies.

Would have loved to be a fly against the wall during that negotiations
Think it’s safe to say that he is smiling all the way to the bank, HTSM counterproposal must have been very enticing…lol.

Well played mr Lindeque.. ..care to share any inside information?

Geld dikteer tog deesdae of hoe? Nie my waardes nie, maar lyk my dit is wat dit is.
