Kearsney look set to play Grey Bloem

Kearsney has been offered the opportunity to play Grey College in a curtain raiser to the Cheetahs vs Cardiff game scheduled to take place in Bloemfontein on 04 August 2012. It’s actually quite a privilege for Kearsney to have been invited to participate in this special fixture.

Making the occasion of great importance to Grey College is that the main game will be played in honour of Sir George Grey and Johan Volsteedt who have both made a massive contribution to the dual medium-school.  Grey College and Grey High School in PE for that matter are named after George Grey, the former Governor of the Cape Colony. Johan Volsteedt is the retiring headmaster of the Bloemfontein rugby factory, having spent 19 years at the helm and 41 years in total at the school. Incidentally Volsteedt’s father was also a headmaster at Grey College – wow! His replacement is Hilton College Afrikaans teacher and house master Deon Scheepers.

Kearsney also have plans in motion to send a representative team to the Independent Schools Week in the 3rd term.

Tough ask but a great honor nonetheless, especially the Friday night formal Old Boys dinner to which the Kearsney1st XV are invited. THAT is going to be so intimidating. I’d be surprised it Kearsney managed to make a dent in that game, considering the opposition and the 7 weekly- off. Well, what an honor and great experience too! Never say die Kearsney…big hearts the guys.

Sat 21 July: the deep end aka Affies
Mon 23 July: Dulwich College (UK)
Sat 28 July: Pretoria Boys at altitude

@SMEAGOL: Its difficult to imagine Kearsney fairing well in this one for a number of reasons:
    1. At the moment it seems like they will go into this game cold. KC don’t have a 3rd term rugby programme and there isn’t a warm-up match planned unless there is a change in plans wrt the IS Festival squad make-up which by the sounds of things wasn’t going to include many 1st team players.
    2. KC don’t have much experience at playing at altitude to fall back on. At best they play one game up at St Stithians every 2nd year ever since the inception of the KERF
    3. Its an important day for Grey Bloem. There will be a lot of incentive to do well. So even tho this isn’t one of their better year’s, they are still an SA Top 10 team and motivation wise they will be pumped up.
