Monnas welcomes back Hans Coetzee

Hans Coetzee is set to make his return to Monument High School in Krugersdorp some five years after leaving. The veteran coach who knows Monnas like the back of his hand will take over as Director of Rugby from Namibia bound Wynand Moolman. Monnas is widely regarded as one of the best rugby schools in South Africa. It was Hans Coetzee who helped establish this legacy. The former history teacher had been a rugby coach at the school for a total of 30 years of which his last 18 were spent in charge of the Wit Bulle 1st XV.  During this time Monnas won 363 games and drew 11 out of 451. That is a success rate of over 80%. Springboks Jacques Fourie, Jorrie Muller, Heinke van der Merwe, Willem Alberts and Jaco Taute were all coached by Coetzee during their school careers. Coetzee has spent the last five years mainly as the Lions under-19 coach. He has also performed a number of other functions for the GLRU including a spell as the interim head coach of the senior team that played against the British and Irish Lions in 2009, this after Eugene Eloff had been dismissed. Monnas are expected to gain an immediate benefit from the wealth of experience that Hans Coetzee brings with him. The team went through a difficult 2012 season, ending it as the bottom powerhouse school. This is something that Coetzee will no doubt be looking to change.
