@Bonthuis: before I embarrass myself and make a comment – are you trying pull the piss ?
KZN teams ranked far to high. Craven Week final shows how much stronger the WP league is than any other in the country.
Rondebosch (49) has not lost a game to anyone outside the top 16 and yet has lost seven games. They have also beaten number 14 and 3 ( in a night series game )
Michaelhouse has not played any team outside of KZN that are rated in the top 30. Yes they have not been beaten but they are playing in “Division 4”.
It does not seem as though this is taken into account on the rankings.
WP beat EP 95 – 0 in the final of Craven Week. EP beat KZN three days earlier.

En ek is amper seker daarvan dat die 2 goeie 0/14 spannetjies van Klerksdorp en Transvalia, opgebreek gaan word oor die volgende 2-3 jaar en die mannetjies gaan opeindig in Makroskole…weereens ‘n realiteit.
Ek kan nog met heimwee onthou hoe ons Saterdagoggende deurgery het Vereeniging (games teen Rainbows, Overvaal ens), Sasolburg (HTS Sasol, Carel de Wet ens), Meyerton (Dr Malan), Suide v JHB (Fakkel, Alberton ens), Verre Noord (Tom Naude, Pieties, Piet Potgieter ens), Stelleland (Lichtenburg) ens ens ens, toe. Die goeie ou dae van die Admin beker.
For the Capies……it will be the same as if all schools in the WP, EP, SWD , Border and Griquas competed for a real trophy…..and in the past 100 years lets say Piketberg, Strand, Brackenfell, Oudshoorn, De Kuilen, Belville, Upington etc won it as many times as Boishaai, Paarl Gim, Outeniqua or Grey PE….that was the reality up north and that’s why a competition like beeld with a 95 year history and all its vagaries interest us more than a yearly interschools where you know your fixture is guaranteed…..the guys going forward now in Beeld know one slip-up and your season is over, whilst you can lose earlier games but if you win the knockouts, glory beckons as happened to Nelspruit last year
@Beet….lol, for sure I’m Ben Vorster for life…..but since they don’t even feature in the top 50 this year, forces me to talk other nonsense……next year we’ll be back……i have nothing against Boland Landbou, I simply believe they will fall in the rankings next term…..i also think Nelspruit is slightly too high and will fall out of the top 10 ( i hope they prove me wrong)…..same with Eldoraigne….I believe they will fall out of top 20…..( after all they only scrape trough 10-7 against Ben Vorster)
At least Ben Vorster will be involved in all 4 (u14/u15/u16 and 1st team) playoffs in the Beeldtrophy for big schools…..last year only the u14s won the Beeld trophy and the u16s lost in the final….lets see if they can win more trophies this year.
People outside the Northvaal region might not realise how competitive the Beeld trophy for big schools are, since more attention are focused on the macro schools. They can consider the following…….in the u16 division Helpmekaar is currently ranked 2nd in the country and has beaten every macro school like Affies without too much bother…..in the u14s Klerksdorp and Transvalia are ranked in the top 10 and has demolished all macro opposition in Nu-power, in fact 3 big schools are ranked in the top 15 before the first macro school even feature.
There are other interesting facts to chew on……about 10 years ago, the Beeld trophy (then big, medium and small schools) was further split and the macro schools division was established…..The first year of its existence Waterkloof 1sts won macro schools and Ermelo won big schools narrowly against Brandwag of Benoni…….however Ermelo beat Waterkloof in the Nu-Power series, so we had the uncomfortable situation that the macro school champion were beaten by the big school champion……the next year my beloved Ben Vorster 1st team won the Beeld trophy for big schools against Helpmekaar…..a feat they would repeat 3 years later against the same opponents…….Monument won macro schools that year, Ben Vorster didn’t play them but did play against the other 3 macro semifinalists of that year, beating Kempton Park and Middelburg, and losing by 1 against EG Jansen.
It is very interesting to follow and the fact remains, whoever will win macro schools in the u/14 division propably already lost to Klerksdorp or Transvalia in the Nu-power series, and i don’t believe there is a macro school that can match Helpmekaar in the under 16 division
I sometimes long for the simpler days of the Administrators cup and the period 1920-1990 before rugby became semi proffessional in schools…..there was no big or small schools, everybody played everybody and the real big dogs were Rustenburg, Heidelberg Volkskool, Potch Volkskool, Zeerust, Wolmaranstad etc……it will surprise many people outside the old Transvaal that Affies won the trophy only every 14 years on average, Waterkloof, Eg Jansen, Menlo, HTS Middelburg never won it in the first 70 years ……Monnas maybe every 20 years…..and schools like Die Fakkel, Lichtenburg, Piet potgieter, ben Viljoen, Delmas, Tom Naude, Oos-Moot, Stoffberg, Hugenote, Hoogenhout, Pietersburg, Randburg and many more unheralded schools were the proud 1st team champions of the whole old Transvaal…….and they beat the superschools like Monnas and affies etc to become champs……those were exciting times

Die formule wat gebruik word gee Boland landbou onbedoeld ‘n voorsprong…ek bedoel niks slegs nie, maar hulle hoort definitief nie op nr 13 bo skole soos Outeniqua nie….ek dink Landbou verloor omtrent 60% van sy wedstryde en res van seisoen sal my reg bewys….Stellenberg se oorwinning oor Boland is maar net die begin, en aan einde van seisoen twyfel ek of BL nog onder top 20 sal tel…..laat my baie dink aan omtrent ‘n maand gelede toe Rustenburg onder top 20 in Noordvaal groep was, met Kemptonpark nerens…..my punt destyds sedertdien reg bewys……maar laat ons maar sien wat gebeur…….veels geluk aan stellenberg, maar vir my is dit geen verassing nie, en ek glo skole soos Stellenberg, Belville en Tygerberg hoef geen tree terug te staan vir die wynlandskole nie….as hulle meer in hul eie vermoens glo en meer kanse om te kompeteer gegun word
