Bosch signature up for grabs but it will come with a high price tag

Grey PE flyhalf slash fullback Curwin Bosch, who turns 18 on 25 June 2015 still hasn’t committed his after school rugby future to one of the SA rugby unions, making him by far the most sort after school rugby player in the country right now. Official records are not kept of contract values, neither are these made public, but at this stage seems fair to assume whichever one of the major rugby union that eventually signs Bosch, will have to break the bank to do so and may in the process establish a national record for the biggest contract awarded to a junior player.

From 7-8 June 2015, Bosch was spotted and photographed training with the Sharks Super Rugby squad outside Kings Park, during his all expenses paid short visit to Durban. This sort of VIP treatment will no doubt be par for the course as the battle to acquire the talented youngster’s signature heats up.

The last really big schoolboy rugby superstar to had a union getting the chequebook out big time was Paarl Gymnasium’s Handre Pollard, who played at the World Rugby under-20 Championship while he was still an 18-year-old scholar, and for whom the Bulls forked out big bucks to acquire back in 2012/3.

    @Rooibul.Die agent en die Cheetahs behoort te weet dat
    Curwin eers by n unie n kontrak kan teken die dag wanneer hy 18 word.Dus tot en met gister kon Curwin nerens teken want ek hoor dis vandag eers sy 18 de verjaarsdag!So dis maar net n rumour dat hy alreeds by die Cheetahs geteken het toe jy die storie gehoor het.

    @Pedantic: An excellent analogy.

    Rose was outstanding at Craven Week but the gulf between schoolboy rugby and the senior professional game is vast and requires a work ethic second to none and no small amount of luck with injuries and the vagaries of selection opportunities to bridge.

    Bosch is certainly a talented player, but still just a schoolboy. Watched him against any berg and he certainly did not set the world alight. He has a far way to go yet and if he is coming to the Sharks, he will need to prove his worth against both Tedder and Innocents, both great flyhlfs

    @Rooibul: Waar het die Cheetahs die aankondiging gemaak? Weet van Oakdale se vaskop wat Shimlas/Cheetahs toe gaan. Want dit lyk of die pad na Superrugby deur die Varsity Cup is.

    A very talented Flyhalf, probably the best Flyhalf Grey has seen, and if I am not mistaken the first kid to be awarded the Craven week player of the year in grade 11.Hope who ever gets him manages him well.

    @Barry: What about getting picked up at the King Shaka Durban airport by a car already bearing your name. How is that for VIP treatment.

    Waar is die dae toe skoolseuns halftyd lemoene as ‘n ‘snack’ ontvang het? Vandag word hulle halftyd kontrakte aangebied.

    @Pretoria Ondersteuner: Jip ek moet vir jou se ons het hierdie span dop gehou by die tuks reeks hulle speel baie goei rugby daarmee stem ek saam geen wonder die 2,5,7 en 10 is al gevat nie.Die groot uni’s wat hul getekin het dink ek het almal klaar voor gespring want ons het dit self gesien by tuks hul wil en kan rugby speel. En ek stem saam 10 is baie,baie gevaarlik.

    Daar is 4 manne van Dr EG Jansen wat ook alreeds kontrakte onderteken het onder die verskeie groot uni’s. 8-O Dit is die nommer 2, 5, 7 en 10 wat reeds kontrakte geteken het vir na skool en is ook in die craven week valke span gekies. Kyk uit vir nommer 10 wat diep spore gaan trap in rugby. :mrgreen:

    He reminds me a lot of Earl Rose who was a Craven Week sensation – let’s hope he trains on and justifies the pricetag.

    It seems very few scouts are looking at “future” potential and rather following the hype of current form – I see so many young players who could potentially grow into something special but are overlooked – these types wouldn’t need huge money thrown at them, but rather a proper player development process.

    I just hope wherever he goes he plays flyhalf. Grey made the mistake of playing him at fullback at the beginning of this year which proved costly against Maritzburg. He was able to play FB last year because the 10 was fantastic. Would be nice to see him stay though, maybe pull a Sergeal and play Super Rugby at 18. Who Knows? :mrgreen:

    EP rugby have done a lot for this kid in the build up to 2016 when he leaves school. He should give them consideration first when horse trading but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
