I watched MHS play St Charles Yesterday. It was a total mismatch but MHS played their game to the book and were clinical in not letting St Charles do much at all.
Also watched the second half of the College Hilton game. Both teams were a bit sloppy but College got the job done.
Next weeks game between MHS and College should be the one to watch. Should be a good game!

Could you guys please stop discussing the rand – it is stuffing up the exchange rate and I have to go to the USA next month.

Slow start by Westville this season after a promising win over SACS, turns out Glenwood are having an even more average season than us.

@BOG: Now how did I know that you’re a great fan of Magnus Heystek?

“Ceteris paribus”…now there’s a term I’ve been using more and more often recently. Even more than I did in my did while I was an Economics student…maybe that’s why it took me a year longer than planned to complete my undergrad  Ou Johnson and Heystek need to insert that more often in their columns.

Anyway, we’ve harped on enough about predictions in the last week. If every single prediction actually happened, the world would be even more warped than it is.

@McCulleys Workshop: RW Johnson says that within 2 yrs from now, SA will have to approach the IMF for a loan to bail them out, with dire consequences. Magnus Heystek too, says that the ZAR/Dollar will be 1:24 within 2 yrs. Which government minister said that the ZAR is undervalued by 20%? Or was that just wishful thinking?

Regardless of the points scoring system, Kearsney and Glenwood cannot be ahead of Westville. Westville is clearly the no.2 team in KZN after victories over Kearsney and Glenwood. Only way to accurately determine no.1 would be to have the two play each other which is not happening, pity as it would have a been a tight game.

    Should read:

    1. Michaelhouse
    2. Westville
    3. Kearsney
    4. College
    5. Glenwood

@McCulleys Workshop: Whose research? That of companies who want to take a bet on the rand and want to push it stronger? Seen to much of those in my lifetime. Rather do your own research, always the best.

@shaunmhs: The only 2 that need to be considered is this ranking system and that of rugby 15. And off course the top 10 of Ruggas.co.za is also not bad.
The others you can discard as they have no clue and go according to gut feel and formulas that is not understandable.

What I mean is, I hope they contend for higher honours as there are a few there that have the potential.

@pedantic, agreed Grey dont have there best side this year, however the game against MC they played 80% of the game with 14 men after a red card and still only lost by 4.Michaelhouse and Grey had a great game last year at the Grey festival with Grey sneaking it, so it would have been good if these 2 sides met again.Grey are still a very dangerous side with some genuine class in there side.

@meadows: Not sure Grey HS are much of a benchmark this season – College beat them and then lost to GW and Kearsney.
There was a big sigh of relief when AN blew the final whistle in the KC vs MHS match and KC haven’t exactly set the field on fire this season.
I guess that puts MHS season into perspective.

The boys don’t choose who they play against and have had an outstanding season with 8 making Craven Week – I hope those 8 step up where it matters.

@McCulleys Workshop: It is a pity that they didn’t play Grey High at Saints. That said Helpmekaar beating Waterkloof on the weekend makes the 50+ points that they put past Helpies look quite good.

@shaunmhs: They haven’t exactly been stretched with close scores against KC, GW and Hilton (not sure they were all close games). Of all things, they are a very well coached side, forwards do the basics rights and the back line play has been very good, varied, running at angles and at pace, with great support play and interlinking of backs and forwards. KZN hasn’t had exceptional sides this year based on the results of games away from KZN, so it would have been interesting if MHS had been tested against stronger sides. Its a pity that they didn’t play Grey High at Saints festival.

    @oldschool:
Its not often that MHS leads the pack in KZN so i will enjoy it while it lasts. :-D
Also MHS are unbeaten so far this year with three games to go. St Charles, College and Hilton.
The last time they had an unbeaten year was 106 years ago according to the stats.
College is the game i am concerned about

@shaunmhs: MHS should only be concerned with the regional ranking as you guys don’t play anyone of significance out side of KZN , so be happy that you guys are currently top of KZN …..

@shaunmhs: The best one, is not always the same one. They differ from year to year, but it is normally the one that favours the school that you support in that particular year.

Just out of interest, does anyone know which website has the most recognized ranking system?
There seems to be a few sites with rankings which are all obviously calculated with a different formula.
SA School Sports has Affies ranked no1 but on this site they are only ranked 4

If these rankings are accurate, the Beeld trophy for large schools this year should be sorted out between these schools:

    1. Potch Gim
    2. Volkskool Heidelberg
    3. Oos Moot
    4. Helpmekaar.

Last year’s finalists, Klerksdorp and Transvalia, do not feature this year. In any event, it is nice to see some large schools feature amongst the macro schools.

@shaunmhs: 4.30 is their provincial average which puts them at #1 in KZN. Their national average is 3.66, which puts them at #11 in the country. Two different weighing systems.
