@Balikibaba: I wouldn’t be too quick to write off Bishops v Gym. I accept a good u16 team does not necessarily translate into a good 1st team, but a mate’s son was in the u16A a few years ago and I remember him posting a lot of very good scores on fb – e.g. they hammered Pta Boys and beat HJS by seven.

@Playa: The first Saturday (18th) after the April break Paarl Gim will be visiting Bishops. Perhaps it will be a good day to visit ?

@Balikibaba: He will probably be selected, but in my opinion he had a forgettable CW, especially in the scrums and tended to be selectively involved in the loose and open play from my perspective

@Playa: He is exceptional, but unfortunately he is still abit small. More talent than Dillyn but Dillyn had grown by the time he was in Gr12 whereas Tristan is still very skraal.

3 players to watch in Bishops backline:

    Leyds
    Smit the centre
Manuel the wing. He scored 3 tries vs St Andrews yesterday and apparently 2 of them were electric. It was him who broke and scored in the last second of the game I believe.

In the forwards I believe players to watch are:

    Prop JP Smith
    Prop William Day
    Number 8 Brandon Salamo

@Balikibaba: @BuffelsCM: WOW! He must be a freak of nature then. I think I’ll make time to catch some Platinum Blues fixtures this year.

@Ploegskaar: I see you don’t have JP Smith, the Craven Week Prop from last year in there anywhere. Why would he not make it this year?

Who is the Wynberg 6? To me, he was the standout loose-forward on the day – I know Stellenberg are not up there with the Paarl Schools, but he was very destructive and looked the part

    Sorry, other way around. Found on Twitter;

A try in the final minute gave the Bishops 1st XV a 35-33 victory over St Andrews in Grahamstown today after they trailed 14-26 at halftime.

@Ploegskaar: Now that is just showing off!

Put some schools next to the players so we can keep an eye on the Ploegie XV.

Hope Bishops play Cornel at 10 sometime over the course of the season. In my opinion he should be the WP CW 10 outside Jondre Williams, with JT Potgieter at first centre and Nico Leonard at second centre. With a back three of Ryan Muller and Cassiem-February on the wings and Ryaan Lombard at 15, that should make for a potent backline.

Put them behind a pack of Joubert, Farmer and Groenewald, with de Villers and Moerat at lock, Visser and Davidz on the flank and the Boishaai 8, and they should do well at CW.

@Playa: His younger brother as far as I know

It’s interesting that Lubelo Scott has been moved to the wing. He was in the WP U/16 side last year as centre. I guess the “youngsters” have to play where they are told to.

Seb Prentice played at no 8 in the U/16 trials last year (and was part of the Elite squad as well). During the season he was moved to centre by the coaches of the Bishops’ U/16 side. I don’t think he particularly liked the move at the time but it seems that he has stayed in the backline (being no 22)

I trust that Cornel Smit will stay injury-free this season
