Only 1 out of 35 schools play rugby in most SA regions

SARU CEO Jurie Roux while talking about their Strategic Transformation Plan mentioned:

“Rugby is massively transformed but we know we have challenges: only one in 35 schools in provinces such as KZN, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and North West play rugby for example, which provides unique challenges for those provinces compared to the Western and Eastern Cape where 60% of school rugby is played.”

It seems if SARU wants transformation at the senior rugby level to take care of itself one day, they need to invest a lot more of their allocated resources in projects that not only increase the participation in the sport at school level but also focus a great deal of attention on quality.
